I started my little girl when she was a month old. It depends on the child but she handled it quite well. Use the rice cereal because it's less likely to cause an allergic reaction. I mean my mom used it on me and I know tons of her friends used it on their babies. We turned out just find didn't we? haha Good luck!

We started rice cereal on our twins at 6 weeks as they cluster fed and our Dr felt they needed the little extra. He also said not to put in their bottle as it is tough to get them to eat cereal later on if they are used to drinking it opposed to eating it, also causing issues putting them onto other purees. Just incase your scared dof having that issue, I see some of the ladies above do give it through the bottle. So likely personal preference
I tried spoon feeding my son at 2 months. He didn't do so great but if I put his paciffier in after each spoon he will swallow it. I will try again in a week to do it that way and see how he does but he gets a bottle with cereal first thing in the morning and last bottle of night. Good luck. My doctor says not before 4 months too. i just donttell her.

Hi. I started Kara on Rice cereal when she was 4 weeks old to get her to sleep better since she was/is a cluster feeder.. (literally in 4 hours she would and still will eat 14 oz) Now she is 14 weeks old and I give her 4 scoops of cereal with 3 scoops of formula in a 6 oz bottle before she goes to bed and she sleeps 8-10 hours a night. Wakes up and has a 4 oz bottle and goes back to sleep for another 4-5 hours.. Haven't tried it with a spoon yet since she eats so much at night.. She is very healthy and growing like a weed.. :)

thank you all so much!! I feel so much better now, I kept reading that you were not suppose to give until 4 months, but he is such a big baby, I think I am doing the right thing... Gave it to him this morning and will do so again tonight.

I start my son on rice cereal in his last bottle about 3 weeks ago. He tends to sleep about 7 hours at night since. Yesterday I tried with a spoon and he kept spitting it out. He prefers his cereal in a bottle. I think I will try again in a week or two with the spoon.

I just started my son on rice cereal this past week. I give it to him right before his last bottle at night. He only eats about 4 or 5 tiny spoonfuls of it and it doing really well. He likes it so much and his reflex to push it to the back of his mouth and swallow is really good too. I'd try it if you feel like you want too!!! Our pediatrician said it's perfectly fine to give them a little bit because it is good for them to start learning to take food from a spoon and get that reflex down.

I tried giving my daughter rice cereal. She didn't do so bad with it. I do put 1 tablespoon of cereal in her last bottle at night to help her sleep better. I've been doing that for about 3 weeks and she's been sleeping through the night ever since. My other children didn't start cereal till later, but she really likes it/

I tried Becky on rice cereal the other day but her tongue-thrust reflex is stil pretty strong so she ended up pushing most of it back out. I tried because she seemed to be really interested in what was on my plate at dinner time. I will try again in about a week and see what happens then.
