sometimes its best to let them cry to sleep! i put my daughter in her crib in the room by herself with the lights out, and go to the other room to watch a movie(or something) with her dad and by the time the movie was over she would be asleep and i could go to bed! if you go in and pick them up when they cry they will learn that you will come when they cry and wont go to bed.

We had a problem with our daughter waking during the night, and after getting her a bottle she never drank it, she just woke up for no reason. We just started ignoring her, and after a few nights she stopped waking. It was hard for those few nights to lie her listening to her cry, but worked out in the long run! She's now been sleeping through for months!

Hi - My son use to require an hour of rocking and bottle before bed. So I started "sleep training" my 15-month old in January. He has not been a good sleeper. His bed time was late 9 or 9:30, now it is 8:00. The routine is: DINNER between 6:30 and 7:30 (done by 7:30 or sooner), BATH right after dinner, BOTTLE right after bath, BRUSH his teeth, then to BED by 8 or 8:15. It has worked good. The first night of putting him down with no rocking, I put him in his crib, told him it was time for night-night and stayed by his crib, soothing, laying him back down, patting him, etc. Until he fell asleep. This took an hour. Next day, did nap the same way, took an hour. That night, same thing, BUT it took 20 minutes. I did this same method for about 3 weeks. Sitting by his bed until he fell asleep, by patting, soothing, etc. Now, it takes me 5 minutes to lay him down. Those first few nights were frustrating, but it was worth it now. I feel your pain completely. His he teething? We do give our son Motrin, he has 16 teeth right now. I did read in a Parents Magazine article, that a child's brain starts making a chemical that tells them to stay awake when it starts getting too late. Their suggested bedtime for his age was 7:00 (not possible at my house), but 8 is working just fine.
