I have noticed that after pureeing peaches for homemade baby food that it is very gritty (I am guessing it is pulp). Any ideas on how to get a smoother consistency?

thank you everyone for the tips. I have been using canned fruit which I tried heating first and then blending with a food processor. I used the sieve thing this morning and that helped a little. My mom-in-law let me try her stick blender (not sure if that is what it's called) and that seemed to do the trick. I appreciate all the helpful hints!

For things like pears, you have to heat them in a sauce pan first. Also, did you peal the peaches?? When I do foods with a tougher skin, I just peel it. Anyway, the peaches should puree up smooth with water or apple juice added to them. Pears, apples and cherries should be first cooked soft in the saucepan. Same with all the veggies. They have to be cooked up soft first and then the water they were cooked in or steamed with added little splashes at a time til its the consistancy you want.

I used to blend mine up then press them through a hand held sieve a couple of times, tipping out the left behind unwanted solid particles as i go. (sieve= wire mesh butterfly catcher looking things - i can only presume they are a worldwide thing?). I would add water afterwards to get the required consistency.

First I cook the veggies and then puree them with some water and put them in ice cube trays. Then the night before I take out the cubes I want to use for the day and they thaw. In the morning I combine those thawed cubes with my Super Porridge (Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron). It is like a jello block. I put all these things in my MAGIC BULLET! Yes, that is the key. Then I add a little formula and whiz it up. No lumps or bumps. It works great. Highly recommend the Magic Bullet.

Do you add water or anything? I don't make mine but I read the ingredients. Also the libraries have books with recipes to make baby food, you may want to look for those.
