I only work half day and sometimes struggle to keep lo busy the whole afternoon. He gets bored with his toys very easily. I read to him, but not longer than 5 minutes as he then gets distracted. He doesn't crawl, but walks assisted. I can't do that very long - my back! Any suggestions?

Maybe there is a stay at home mom group you can find in your area. It would be a good way to keep baby busy with little ones and a good way for mommy to be around grownups.

Story time at the local library. It's free, only 30 minutes and my little one loves watching the other kids. They sing a lot of songs and hokey pokey, etc. It's a good little outing!

my son is very much like that but what i done was take him to the park on the swings they like that and also i wouldnt give him his toys all at once i would give him a few to play wiv and then when u notice him getting bored switch them for sum different ones, and so on also if you have a garden try just letting him run riot outside he wil soon tire him self out,  thre the only suggestions i can come up with i hope this helps you along.

I dont know y we buy toys my little girl just loves spoons and measuring cups lol. I only work half a day and I know it is so hard sometimes. My husband does not get home until late and he does not understand how hard it is to keep their attention at this age. I cant even get any house work done or dinner cooked sometimes. My daughter is not crawling yet either and pitches a fit when she is on her tummy. She loves her walker though. Only problem with that is I now know why the Doc said the walker is not a good idea. She does not know how to keep her balance and wants to lean forward when we practice walking. I also will take her shopping...dont have the money but we go for a few hours and just look around to waste time. I have found that it has made her less scared of adults. I know...I ramble, but that is my take on it lol

Hi I know exactly what you mean, Phoenix likes to play with anything out of the utensil drawer wooden spoons, plastic potato mashers etc, prefers it over his expensive fisher price toys..

Kitchen stuff, bowls, measuring cups, rubber scrapers....you name it. My twin boys love it when I put toys under an upside down laundry basket. Also just going outside, even if it's in their high chairs works well for me.

OOOOOH I like those ideas that Nina just mentioned. I too have a busy littlel boy who is easily board with his toys. His name is also Ethan. Someone else just suggested that box idea to me as well and said that big stores etc. will give their boxes away. I too have noticed my Ethan likes containers to play with. Open and shut the lids. He likes to climb on everything and likes to pull clothes and blankets out of baskets etc.

We also go for outings in our small town, Grocery store, library, green market, visit neighbors just to say hi or drop of baked goods or garden stuff. He loves long walks. Not sure what will happen in winter though.

Oh yeh, finger painting as well and playing on our keyboard are his faves.

I have been playing a range of games with my boy Ethan to keep him busy, Such as Climb Every Cushion - Pile up a stack of pillows for a safe, fun climbing activity. Use the largest, most stable pillows, such as couch cushions and bed pillows, on the bottom, Holding your baby steadily, help her climb up the mountain of pillows and stand triumphant on top. Flying Seesaw - Lay the tube on a flat surface – preferably a smooth floor. Balance the board or book on the cylinder like a teeter-totter with one end down and the other angling upward. Set the stuffed animal on the lower end of the book and announce, "Let's watch Bunny go for a ride," and have your child hit the high end of the book with the child's hammer or mallet or have your baby use his fist. Babies love watching animal goes flying. Inside the Box - i put a soft blanket and some toys and books in the box with your baby and let him explore his own little space. If you like cut windows out of a tall crate and you've created a "clubhouse," where your baby can play peekaboo with you or turn a large box on its side and let your baby move in and out at his leisure. They just seem to love playing with boxs.

I thought of two other things . . . Do you have any Baby Einstein DVDs? My son didn't care for the music ones for young babies (like Baby Mozart), but he loves the ones for older babies. His favorites are My First Signs, Baby Noah, and Baby Wordsworth. He's mesmerized by these (he'll sit and watch for 20-30 min. totally engaged). His pediatrician said that spending up to 30 min.a day watching these would be okay since they're designed for babies.
I've also noticed that he seems to play with his toys more if I give him a few at a time rather than putting them all out at once. I hope this helps!

I feel your frustration. I'm home with my son all day, and while I'm very thankful to be able to stay home with him, it can be difficult at times to fill the day. He loves books, but right now he enjoys just looking at them, turning the pages, and emptying his shelf more than actually having me read everything to him. I also find that he likes to play with non-toy household items; he loves to play with a big plastic spoon while I'm in the kitchen, and I also made him a shaker using a plastic water bottle with rice inside. At least once a day, I try to find some errand to run or take him to the park to give us a change of scenery. He loves looking around at the grocery store.

I use a hard cover book. It keeps her busy for like an hour. I do it when I am cooking. I put her in her walker and hand her the book. My little girl also like music so I would turn up the stereo and let her sing along. this last for about 15 mins though. The hard cover book is tyour best bet if you have a girl. For boys I have no idea
