How do you transition to whole milk?

I am a new mom and my daughter will be 1 at the end of the month. We want to transisition her to whole milk but have no idea how.

She takes 3 bottles a day currently but isn't a huge fan of formula so we are hoping she likes milk better. Do we mix milk and formula, do we do it cold turkey, do we still heat the milk?? Only in a sippy cup or is a bottle okay? She currently will only drink water and maybe juice from a sippy. We tried formula but that was a no go.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

when i got the go ahead to give my son milk, i started of mixing 1/2 milk and 1/2 formula...and since our goal was no bottles by age 1, i only gave him milk in a sippy cup. he usually has a sensitive tummy, so thats why i didnt just go straight into whole milk...after about a week we just went cold turkey and he loves milk! good luck!

My son is very picky about that his milk (or should I say was). He had to have his formula warm. Then when he was 9 months the doctor said we could switch him to milk but the little stinker wouldn't take it straight so we did half and half and then decreased it down and when almost all the formula was gone he was just getting a maybe a 1/4 scoop of formula with his milk and then he transitioned fine. Then about 2 weeks later we put him on sippys and he did great. At first we just had to get the ones that were not spill proof so he knew what was coming out of it and now he's strickly on sippys' He doesn't seem to drink as much milk now and he did but he is also drinking more juice and water which is still good and he gets his dairy in other foods.

I have only tried it once and i am currently waiting because when i tried to add a ounce to his bottle camrynn got violently ill. im slightly lactose intolerant and so is my hubs. My nutritionist and doctor both told me many parents transition too early and its best to wait until after they are 1 years old to start. but start slowly and go up a ounce each week is what i was told :) good luck :)

We made Alivia 4 oz of formula and then added 2 oz of milk the first day, then 2 oz of formula with 4 oz of milk the next day, then just gave her straight milk from then on. She had no problems and she loves it!

This is what we did ... my son is currently taking 3 bottles a day. We probably jumped into it more than others (my son has NEVER had any problems with any foods at all). Instead of all water with the formula, we just added 1/2 milk and 1/2 water, and the same amount of formula (I am trying to keep his weight on, since he started moving, he isn't gaining anything). This seems to work great for us ... and Wes seems to be doing great with the milk!! He will drink straight milk from a cup and straw (he doesn't understand how to use a sippy cup, so we went straight to straws), and also likes the milk in the formula!

mixing it is a good idea my mom told me to do that with my first but what I did instead was just use milk in a kiddy straw cup as another drink throughout the day like juice or water to introduce the milk then increased the amount of times I gave it to him through the day and decreased the amount of formula so not only it transitioned to milk but got rid of the bottle all tohether as well. If your baby doesn't like formula much chances are she wont be a big fan of whole milk because its so thick so if she doesn't like it you can give her 2%. I had that issue with my first and he still doesn't like whole and only drinks 2% he'll be 3 in Jan and my little one just turned 1 on the 2nd and he's on milk with the straw cups and off the bottle and formula which I thought would be harder with him because he actually liked his formula lol but it worked with him too

What I am doing for my son is mixing some milk with his formula....i started with 2 oz of milk with 6 oz of formula....then went to 4 oz of milk with 4 oz of formula, thats what he is drinkin now is half milk and half formula.....next week i will switch to 6 oz of milk and only 2 oz of formula for a few days and then he will be on just milk....i also have started to give him milk with his meals in a sippy cup, sometimes he drinks almost all of it and sometimes he doesn't drink very much.....hope this helped...good luck.....
