How Much Baby Food Are You Giving Your 6 Mon Old?

my baby was born 8th nov so he isnow 7 months and his routine is as follows



7am baby cereal

10:30 breast fed

12pm annabel karmel recipe, and a dessert

3;30pm breast fed

5pm same as lunch

7pm breast fed then bed

he also feeds 2 times during the night., and i also offer him some boiled water in his sippy cup after each meal but does not really take much of it.

think my son must be a gannit from the sounds of what other babies his age r eating, he has around 3-4oz formula and a breakie jar in the morning. then 4oz formula a savory jar and a sweet jar at dinner, same at tea time and 6oz and a baby rice for supper. he wears 9-12mnth clothes but he is so long, he doesnt look fat and isnt weighing in as over weight, and is content sleeping thru etc. think every child is different. he also has a few oz's juice in the afternoon, not everyday tho.my son was born 8th nov.

my son is almost 6 half months old, he has some banana cereal or porridge around 7, then a 7 oz bottle between 8+9, he has 1/2 a jar of veg, chicken or meat around 12, another bottle between 3+4, then his dessert between 5-6, then his last bottle just before he goes to bed which is normally 7, he normally drinks around 5 oz of water everyday, i dont give him juice because he is happy drinking the water, he does eat quite abit but he is very tall, he was born 51.5cm weighing 7.10 and i was a week late. Oh, I also let her gum on pieces of cantaloupe, apple or cucumber since she doesn't have any teeth yet. I also found some organic teething biscuits that she loves.

My baby girl just started on solids two weeks ago, she was EBF until then. I give her rice cereal in the morning and at supper time along with a few bites of a fruit or veggie if she wants it. She also has a few sips of water from a cup as she hasn't figured out how to work the sippy cup yet. I don't give any juice and I BF whenever she wants to, ignore anyone who has a problem with it, BF if you (and baby) want to! I don't really measure how much she gets, some days she goes nuts for it other days not so much. These next six months are more a time for the baby to learn and experiment with food since the majority of their nutrients still come from breastmilk/formula. What kinds of foods has everyone tried with their babes?

My daughter gets up at 6am has an 8oz bottle then 7am 1 jar of fruit mixed with 2 tbsp of cereal, then she has 3 more 6 oz bottles rest of day (lunch, snack, dinner) lunch is 1 jar of veggie and 1 jar of fruit, dinner 1 jar of veggie and 1/2 a fruit. she hasn't started juice because our Dr. told us to wait until 7 months. She can have a teething biscuit now and we have to wait on cheerios for another 3 months

My son gets 8 0z formula first thing, next meal usually 3 hours later either rice or oatmeal cereal mixed with fresh organic fruit and 2-3 0z of formula. Lunch he gets a mix of fresh organic veggies with 2-3 oz formula, mid afternoon 6 0z formula. Dinner either organic sweet or reg org. potato mixed with veggie and 2 0z of water or water mixed with pure org. apple juice. Before bed a little rice cereal and 4 oz of formula. ....goes to bed at 8 pm wakes up usually 7 am.

My son is 6 months old and has been eating solids since 3 1/2 months. Currently he is eating 3 times a day. Typically in the morning he eats 4 tablespoons and then nurses. In the afternoon is eats 6-7 tablespoons of food and gets a 4 oz bottle of juice ( 2ozs of water & 2 ozs of juice) for dinner he takes about 5 tablespoons of food and then nurses.

We are doing 4 bottles a day (8oz) and one "food" meal at lunch which is three tablespoons of rice cereal mixed with a small jar of fruit or veggies (and formula to texture) He eats every drop. This is what we are sticking with for now until he really gets all the different foods down and has a good history of eating. We only do juice if needed for constipation and we also do half juice half water.

I've been feeding my daughter her rice cereals or mix fruit cereals for breakfast and lunch I usually give her some of her puree fruits, dinner the remainder of the jar of fruits if she hasn't eaten all of it...I let her call the shots on how much she would like to eat.

Since she has started eating foods I BF her maybe 3 times a day (Morning, nap time and before bed). I also give her the Heinz Apple Juice from concentrate for babies 6 months, half juice & half water....she seems to drink alot more juice now that the hot weather is kicking in and like I mentioned I still breastfeed her 3 times a day and before bed....I too got the weird stares while feeding my daughter at mall or a resturant, it's time that people just get over it as breast milk is the best for babies not only that it doesn't cost a cent!!! A friend of mine got the comment said to her that she shouldn't be feeding her baby in public and that theres bathrooms for that....she simply asked which bathroom that that person ate their lunch in!!!

My six months old is now following the schedule below:

7am: 5 to 6 oz formula
10am: 5 to 6 oz formula (may or may not need this; e.g.: this morning, she had some pureed sweet potato instead of formula because she started drooling and biting her finger when she saw me eating my breakfast cereal)
12pm: Solid food (Rice cereal approx. 2 oz mixed in with one of the following: egg yolk or pureed sweet potato or pureed carrot ~ have yet to try new items, since she just turned 6 months)
1pm: 5 to 6 oz formula
5pm: 5 to 6 oz formula
6pm: Solid (as above)
7pm: 5 to 6 oz formula
1 to 2 am: 5 to 6 oz formula

According to Annabel Karmel's baby food book, at 6 months, babies still need about 20 oz breastmilk / formula a day. I so wanted to try giving diluted fruit juice to my daughter, but since she does not like the taste of water, I'm afraid that once she tasted fruit juice she will not drink her milk too. I've tried pureed apples before and she did not seem to like it; but that was before she turned 6 months. I think now that she had tried pureed carrots and sweet potatoes and seem to like the sweet taste, I can reintroduce apples again.



* BTW, my daughter has eczema so her dermatologist and family doctor suggests starting her off with rice cereal instead of oatmeal. Also, it is recommended that we do not give her any peanuts until she is 4 years old, since babies with eczema are more prone to food allergies. (My eldest also had eczema, but it only lasted the first 3 months of her life. However, she was allergic to some tropical fruits and shellfish before she turned 3. So, with little sister, I'm going to be extra careful.)

Thanks So Much Ladies For Your Posts. It Gives Me A Good Idea Of What Other Babies My Daughters Age Are Eating. I Am Going To Continue Breastfeeding No Matter What But It Really Gets Old Getting The Looks From People! But Then There Are Some People Who Will Want To Know Whats Under The Blanket And Keep Looking At Us. Then I Have Some Women Come Up To Me And Tell Me That I Am An Awesome Mother! Doesnt That Make You Feel Good. But Its Just The Negative People That Make Me Crazy. But Oh Well. Thanks Ladies!

My Daughter is 6 months and I give her about 4oz's of water a day. In the mornings she gets 2 scoops of rice cereal and a 7oz bottle then at 12pm she gets anther 7oz bottle and a half jar of baby food. Then at 4pm she has anoher bottle with the other half of baby food and then at 8pm I give her two scoops of rice cereal in her bottle and then bed. She doesn't wake up until about 10:00am the following morning

he gets 4oz oatmeal and fruit for breakfast with a 6oz bottles, for lunch he eats 2oz applesouce and a 6oz bottle and for dinner he gets a 40z veggie with a 6oz bottle before bed. He usually eats one or two 6oz bottles inbetween. As for juice, I have a sippy cup with 1oz juice and 2oz water. There are times during the say that just wants a couple sips of something and thats it so I give him the juice with water.

My son has just realized he likes food...He is on soy formula due to a milk allergy. He definitly drinks less of it since we feed him breakfast lunch and dinner. One container of the gerber organic fruit or veggie per meal, so 2.5-3 a day. I dont give him any juice at all they say it's too much sugar, especially so young. I will give him a sippy cup of water (he doesnt drink much)...but it keeps him occupied when he isn't really interested in his bottle. And hey people just have to get over the breastfeeding thing...man whats the big deal...it seems like you can go anywhere in the world but in the US and breastfeed with no looks from people.

My daughter was 6 months old on the 20th. She eats 8oz bottle in the morning around 7 or 8. Then at 11 she eats pablum. Then she eats another about 6oz around 2. Then supper time she eats food. Usually about half a jar sometimes the whole thing. Then at night time she eats 6oz again with some pablum. I have never given her juice but she loves water whenever she gets it, which is not very often.

my son is just about 7 months and he drinks 8oz milk in the morning and at night sometimes in the afternoon if he gets crabby but he also eats 4tbs rice cereal in the morning lunch and dinner for lunch and dinner he also gets half a jar of stage two gerber foods my doc said i could start giving him juice when he started eating solids around 3 months but we forgot and just gave him stage one gerber haha so we just got him some juice to drink so i am going to try two to one every two oz of juice one oz of water or something and dont listen to what other ppl say about breastfeeding in public if they do then turn around and say well i have a problem with you eating in public also cuz your daughter is just eatting like they are

I give my LO a milk bottle around 8am.. He usually eats about 1/2 a jar of fruit or veggie and cereal between 12-1pm... Then he usually finishes his 1/2 jar of fruit or veggie around 5pm and then he has another milk bottle at 9pm before he goes to sleep for the night...Sometime he may wake up around 4am and want a milk bottle, but that is starting to happen less and less... When he eats his solids, I usually let him have a few sips of 2oz water and 2oz apple juice to wash it down... I haven't given him water yet, but I'm def. sure he will get some this summer (we're in Texas lol)...

My daughter turned 6 months on the 25th of May she eats a 6 oz bottle in the morning between 7 am and 8 am she then has some porridge at around 9 am then has another bottle at around 11 has some fruit around 12 another bottle around 3pm and some veggies around 5 she then has another bottle around 7pm and then yes another bottle around 11 pm. she still has 5 bottles a day but mainly because we have only started solids about 2 and a half weeks ago and she only eats 3 spoonfuls everytime. I am have started to give her juice once a day diluted with water eventhough they said babies dont need it :-).

I would say as long as your baby is happy and not hungryeverything is fine on another note I really don't think that you should stop breastfeeding in public because other people have a problem with it, it really is their problem not yours you are just feeding your child if they don't want to see it don't look...

I do not give my 6 month old any juice unless he is constipated and I have never given him water, but I might once it gets a little hotter up here (Wisconsin). He drinks 4-5 bottles of formula a day. They are usually about 5oz each. I give him oatmeal mixed with fruit in the evening and every other day or so I give him a jar of veggie and fruit for lunch. I do not give him too many solids yet cause my doc said that the formula is more important. Once he gets a little more interested in the solids I will give him more. I hate it when poeple have a problem with breast feeding. I BF my son for 4 months and I got the bad looks from some people. I always covered up and I never did it in the middle of a restaurant or anything so I don't know what the big deal was. Oh well, not everyone is going to act like an adult!
