My daughter was 16lbs 6oz and 26 1/2in at her 9month checkup. She's alot smaller than my other kids were but the doctor said she's fine.

My son was 21 pounds at his 9 month check up. Every baby is different so I think 18lbs. sounds normal to me. What does your pediatrician say?

Looks like I have a small little guy. He is almost 10 months and is only 15.2 pounds. The doctor is getting concerned that he hasn't gained weight in 4 months, and what he said was that you should go by their own curve, not the actual weight (like if they are steadily growing). As long as he isn't just a blob sitting there and has energy, he should be fine. Our next step may be a feeding tube because he just won't eat, so it could be worse :)

You'd be shocked. Mine is 16.8 pounds and 27 3/4 long. hahahah. But she is a perfectly happy and healthy kid. I'm very petite- I guess she takes after me.

Its fine every baby is different when you take him to his doctors what are his % that they give you comparing his height and weight? My son is on the larger size he is 9 months and weighs 22.4 lbs! and is 29 1/4 inches! SO my son is just big but his father and all the boys on that side are over 6 feet tall. but my sons % are 75% so its fine. Do trust your doctor they will let you know if its for huge concern but 18 lbs is just fine I wish my son weighed 18 lbs. The times doctors become concerned if a child falls below a 5-10% rate. My daughter is just 9 months old and was 18.8 on her last weigh in. She is small framed but is solid and has a very healthy diet, she actually eats loads!!! I just dont give her any of the crap that a lot of mums do these days...I really wouldnt worry, so long as he is growing at a steady rate and is eating ok, your doin a great job!

At 9 months, my baby girl was about 15 lbs. The doctor says she's healthy. She eats really well, and is growing and gaining weight slowly. She is super active though and has been crawling for a while now, so I think that has something to do with it.

Mine is a larger baby which my doctor always says. She is 9m1w old and she weighs 22lbs and is 31/32 inches long. She was also 10lbs4oz when born though. I think your baby would be in that range, if you are worried though ask the doctor at your next apt. If they had concerns about the baby though they would have said something last time. Babies are all different sizes.

I'm in the same boat as you and a first time mommy as well. My son is right around 17pds and about the same length...he's JUST starting to get into 6-9 mo clothes right now. I don't think that its anything to be concerned about as long as he is eating well and doing everything else accordingly. As far as I'm concerned he's healthy; he's jus going to be one of the more normal weight kids. My pediatrician felt the same way. Course, he also told me that because my hubbie is Asian he may have a tendency to run on the smaller side of things regardless. Hope this helps!

Your son is alot shorter, so it makes sense that he weighs less. My boy is 29 inches long and 20lbs. 8oz. I think he is fine.

My son Payton is 9 months and is 16Ib 5oz and 28 in. tall. He was a month early weighing in at 5Ib 9oz. My doc said that he is growing fine, just on the small side. I think a lot (not all) has to depend on what size they were at birth, how much solids they eat, and what there activity level is.

My child is 9 months old and at her 9 month appointment she weighed 16 lbs. I too was worried but her pediatrician said not to worry she is just tall and skinny, she is 29.5 inches long.

it really depends a lot on the birth weight so as long as he is gaining every month your doing great my little boy was 18.8lbs july 3rd and he will be 9 months old the 28th of this month we go to the dr the 31st but im thinking he will be close to that still because he is now gettin taller so its almost like he is jus stretching and not feeling to much heavier

Hi! Just wanted you to know that there are 2.2 pounds per kg!  And there are approximately 3 cm's per inch :)

My son is 23+ pounds and 30 inches - he's in the 95+ percentile. All babies grow at their own rate, and as long as your little one is growing in his own way, then I wouldn't worry about it!



Just as an aside - I read up there somewhere that someone's doctor told them that a lot of babies are overweight. I worry that these doctors are giving pretty crappy information to parents. I am sure that none of us feed our kids chocolate and sugar at every meal, so I think that thought that there are many overweight babies is kind of ridiculous. Babies are supposed to be rolly-polly - and I think that's REALLY good for babies. My son isn't rolly-polly, just one solid kid, but I think chubbers are adorable - and healthy!!!

I think evey baby is different and can vary sooo much! My son is 28 inches and 17 pounds 13 ounces !!! Hes a tiny little boy but hes soooooo active!!!!!

That is not too small at all. I have 9 mo old twins and they are chunky but they are the same height as your son. Lucas is 26 lbs; he's a BIG boy and his twin brother Evan is only 19 lbs. Every baby grows at their own pace, I don't think you have anything to worry about!

My 9 month old is about 23lbs... but she was also born 9lbs5oz- so was your son smaller at birth? Also, ask your pediatrician- they have growth charts you fill in at every length/weight check and make sure he's been growing consistently.

As long as he's eating well, moving around, and generally fine other than his weight, I'm sure he's fine. Good luck! :)

My daughter had her nine month check up yesterday (almost a week late), and she was 19 lbs 6 oz and 28 inches (which was wrong, she's more like 29, but she wouldn't hold still). My doc said this is around the 70th.

my baby weighed 18.1lbs at 9 months and was 70.5cm long. every child is different. as long as your child is healthy, eats, drinks, poops and sleeps, dont worry. just enjoy him.

wow are babies are pretty much the same, kylie is also 18lbs and 26 1/2inches... my doctor said everything was fine.
I know that they can slow down at putting on weight once they start moving because they are burning more calories, as long as she is eating, i wouldnt worry

Don't worry my baby is 15.5 lbs/29inches and she's 9 mo and 3 weeks old and the doc said there's nothing to worry about and honestly even if he said there was something to worry about I know my child and she's a happy, smiling, ball of energy so I wouldn't be worried. You know your child and I'm sure you would know if something's wrong.

As long as your baby is continuing on a healthy curve he is fine. I think your baby weight looks good. My twin girls are not even on the growth chart yet so they are WAY smaller than all the weights listed above. Don't worry I think he seems like he is at a healthy weight :-)

My son will be nine mths old tomorrow. He weighs 19 lbs, I was concerned also but his doctor said that I shouldnt be, that is is in the 50th percentile of his age. Also many babies in todays world are OVERweight. Just keep feeding him healthy choices. He told me that I should take it as a compliment if he is "smaller", bigger isn't always better!

Not to worry my little girl is 9 Months 17 pds and 31 inches long she is very small framed with size 5 feet on my last doctors visit I was advised she is under weight for her age but her length and her foot size seem to balance her out she was 5 weeks Prem when born and only weighed in at 4 pds when born she is also my first baby and despite her weight she is extemely healthy eats everything and anything not nailed to the ground so I guess it can be normal for some babies to be under the normal weight scale

I would say that he is fine....my son is a big baby...he was born at 10lbs and 12ozs....and is now 25lbs and 6ozs and 30 inches long.....there is a baby that he goes to daycare with that turned a year old a couple weeks ago and she was around 19 pounds at her 12 month check up....and he is taller than her also....some babies are big and some babies are small......and like Amy said...as long and he is gaining weight and inches and eating well and is healthy than you shouldn't worry....

he's definetely on the smaller side slightly but some babies are just built smaller. My son is 9.5 months and weighs 19.5 pounds and is 28.5 inches. As long as he is gaining weight and inches, even if really slowly, and eating well and is healthy then I don't think you need to worry
