ok my lo will be 14 months old on the 8th and she is able to get on and off the couch, and my bed (which is sitting on the floor) with no problems. I was thinking of buying a toddler bed for her for her but when I brought this up to my mother and grandmother ( use to be a health care nurse and nurse to a pediatrician) they both said to wait tell she can understand that she is to stay in bed when she is put there to sleep ( about 2-3 years old). I also have other family members saying if she can get on and off the furniture by herself then she should be sleeping in a toddler bed (One of my sisters has a 16 month old boy who was in a toddler bed at 12 months old). My Question is When is the right time to move from a crib to a toddler bed?

My daughter will be 14 months end of january of 2010. I want to put her in a toddler bed soon... I think that if you believe she is ready get her one and try it out. If it works then take her crib down, if it doesn't work then store the toddler bed away until she's ready... Every child is different... You can teach her what her toddler bed is... It's ultimately up to you and how you feel. People told me that my daughter needed her pacifier taken away... My daughter had a binky in her mouth her whole life... she loved it... she wasn't fussy when i took it away or crazy without it... But one day when she was about 7-8 months old, she just forgot about her binky... Now she sees one and won't touch it... she doesn't like it... some babies are pacifier crazy =]... All kids are different, don't do what everyone else wants you to do... do what you feel... if you think it's the right time to try the toddler bed, then go for it....

I've heard when they can climb out of their crib in the morning, they are ready for a bed, but I think it depends on the child. We will most likely buy a big girl bed for our daughter around 20 months, but mostly because our next child will be ready for the crib and i'd hate to buy a second crib to use for 2-3 months. If she's not ready, i'll have no choice, but I think i'll know when she's ready.

I have been asking the same question and also been getting mixed responses. I think it varies becuase all kids are different. Im gouing to wait another 6 or so months maybe when hes about 18-24 months old ill make the move, as he rolls alot during the night and I dont think he would stay in there to go to sleep. My cot is a cot that you can take the side off and put the toddler bar on it, I think thats what im going to do and then we will get him a big boys bed when i have another baby or when he grows out of it whichever comes first. Do what you think is going to work, maybe give it a try, you can always switch back for a little longer if it doesnt work out.

Good luck.
