hi my son has croup and i was just wandering what i can do for him. he has spent a night in the hospital when he was really bad with it but they only gave him some steroid to help the inflamation go down and he seemed to get better was not wheezing as much bu8t then after a day at home with no medication he has started to get worse again. the doctors say there is not much that can be done with croup and you just have to let it run it course and heal on its own. but at night time the wheezing is so bad that he is now having to sleep in his pushchair in our bedroom so that he is slighlty sat up but that still doesn't seem to help much. any ideas on what i can do just to help him?

The best treatment for Croup is cool moist air, not steam. Croup is swelling/inflammation of tissue within the upper throat area. Steam will actually tend to increase the inflammation whereas cool moist air will reduce it in a matter of minutes.

All Pedi's will recomend cool moist air as their primary treatment for children suffering from Croup.

Go outside and breathe the cool air or open a freezer doe for a few minutes. Treat it like a sprained ankle... to reduce you use ice, not hot or steam.

Inflammation is inflammation... cool moist air it the answer.

Love to all Mums out there :-)

I've read that....you might also try using a cool-mist humidifier in your baby's room to maintain a humid environment. Make sure to clean the humidifier daily with a bleach and water to avoid bacteria. Also make sure your baby is getting plenty of fluids.

if that doesn't work take him out in the cold air at night, it should help the inflamation
