he's 17 months old and the foreskin is very tight around his penis. right now the urologist has me applying cream and trying to pull it down, but if this doesnt work she wants to circumcise him. im very nervous cause my son is older, but i want the best for him. has anybody ever had problems with uncircumcised boys? any advice?

My younger brother had this problem when he was like 5 and he had to get it done. It was kinda painful, but he is totally fine now and has no problems with "it'' at all! He even had a baby.

My son is circumsized as well. Before he left the hospital he had to have surgery to repair two hernias so I had them do it then, while he was under anesthesia. I chose to have it done because my husband is, and because there is less chance of infection. My husbands cousin got an infection and had to be circumsized at 13 years old, and it was somewhat traumatic, as you can imagine for a boy going through puberty!

U should get him circumcized and he will do just fine. It is cleaner and when he gets adult age he has less chance of catching STDs. I know an adult man that had to get circumcized so it is done later in age but birth to 4 months is the typical. I had my preemie baby circumcized at 4 months in the pediatricians office. Took about 10 minutes or so. This day and age "most" boys are circumcized. The benefits outweigh the risks. But it is ultimately your decision.

My 16 month old isnt circumsized either

what made you notice the tight skin, like did it

seem to be irraitating him or something?

until boys are around age 7 i think, the foreskin doesnt need

to be touched at all as it is self cleaning, in the bath/sower and then when they do

reach that age they can beggin pulling the skin back themselves to clean

My 16 month old is also uncircumcised, and I haven't had any problems. His pediatrician said not to mess with the foreskin, that it will retract on it's own like Kylie said. You have made a great decision by not circumcising your son, so I also agree that you should get a second opinion.

Well Candice's son has had no pain or trouble urinating so it seems some doctors are just hell bent on circumcision and misinforming parents. The foreskin is an important part a males body..just as important as eye lids or fingernails. If boys didn't need that part of their body they wouldn't be born with it.

well the whole reason i didnt get him done was cause his dad isnt and because of the religious reasons. me and his dad are big into the bible and we believe god made it that way for a reason.

I was told the same thing about leaving the foreskin alone and it will retract when it needs to.

I'm not sure what you mean by it being too tight..i just know the foreskin will retract naturally when you son is a lot older and you should never try to pull it back for him. If you to pull on the the foreskin you will damage and hurt him and this leads to infections and other issues. Caring for an intact boy is simple, you just wipe him over like you would wipe a finger. http://www.drmomma.org/2010/01/are-you-f...

This is a great site and has so much information on the topic. It's important to be educated about this and i think that circumcision should be a very last resort. I would speak to another doc to get a second opinion on this too. Good luck!
