my son johnny is months old. can i start him on cereal?

What you need to do is speak to your pediatrician to make sure before you give him any cereal. I was told by mine to start with a mild baby cereal (rice is preferred but oatmeal is ok) at 4 months and I did. Per my pediatrician he gets one "meal" of cereal a day and everything else is his formula. This is only really to get them acclimated to eating more solid substances and with a spoon. The majority of the nutrition and feeding still comes from formula/breast milk and that was strongly impressed on me. This will get them ready for the attempts at other foods, such as peas and carrots at 6 months. Prior to 6 months you're really not supposed to do any other foods as the studies show that too early an introduction to the fruits/veggies can cause food alergies. Good luck!

hmm, I think every major pediatric organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding until 6 months. But if you do decide to give cereal, keep an eye out for food intolerance-like reactions like eczema behind the ears or something. Bets of luck with whatever you choose!

My son Dylan is a lil over 4 months old and has been taking cereal for over a month. I did the same thing with my oldest son also. All while breastfeeding. I think the cereal bottle at night is AMAZING lol. Dylan has also been eating a cereal for breakfast, a fruit at lunch and a veggie at dinner, and still drinking milk in between feedings. I honestly believe it depends on what you want to do, when you think your child is ready is when you should start him. Every child is different and you're the only one that knows yours!!

We went for Joshua's 4 month check up and the pediatrician said I could start him on cereal if I wanted. It was my choice. I "practiced" on Monday to see how he would recieve a spoon (with nothing on it) and he did so well that I fed him cereal on Tuesday. Good luck!

I agree with Dawn. If he is over 4 months go for it. My little guy is 5 months and he eats cereal, puree fruit and puree vegies and has been eating cereal and fruit for a month and vegies for the past week or so. Good luck.

how old is he??? thay have only changed the thing about not weaning them till 6 months in the last 3 years. they use to wean from 4 months. my little one is 4 months now and i have been giving him breakfast and dinner. for 2 weeks now. go for it if it is right for you and your baby.
