My soon to be 11 month old only says "DADA" should i be worried??

My daughter's first (and favorite) word is "puppy"! She started this at ~ 9 1/2 months, and now calls almost everyone and everything puppy (she loves our 2 dogs). She does now say Daddy & "night - night" (while waving backwards). Only every so often does she throw me a token "Mama"...I'm usually puppy as well!



I think they all develop at their own pace, and some of it is probably genetically predisposed. I have always been very verbally oriented (suck at math), so I sort of expected my daughter to be as well. Your little boy is probably more on the normal side here than puppy-girl!

My little one is almost a year old and still no "real" words, I were also concerned but after reading through the post I also feel a lot better now.

My daughter turned 11 months today and says Daddy, Mama, Nana, Hi, Eyes, Ow and Uh oh. She can point to her eyes and nose too. Today she actually said "MY daddy" but not entirely sure if the MY was just a sound or if she actually knew what she was saying.

My son, on the other hand when he was her age, said Dada only. All babies develop at their own rate. You've got nothing to worry about.

Mine says only Dada and Mama (to everything)! I'm not worried. He does things on his timetable.

yeah mine is 11 months yesterday and says mama and anpa had has said oopsie and pee but that's it...i mean he "says" more but i don't know what he's talking about

My son doesn't say any words yet. As a matter of fact...he isn't even saying any consonants. I was very worried, but I've been told that it's perfectly normal. He does "talk" a lot, but never any consonants and definitely nothing that remotely resembles a word.

Mine says dadadada ... but completely indescriminately ... meaning - he's not saying any words at all. So I would say No, don't be worried! They will talk/walk/move/scream, etc when they are ready!

hi shawna... same with my daughter. She is 10 month old and she do 'talking' but hardly to understand. not worried too much. its normal.

Hi. I'm a Speech and Language Therapist (Pathologist). It is completely normal for babies of 11 months not to have any words at all. Hope this reassures you. My baby is 10 months old and does not have any words yet.

Boys are commonly late with speech and all babies are so different my 11month old says mumma dadda followed by a rasberry. Just continue to model the correct words in association with the object and he will get it in his own time.

don't worry to much each child talks at different stages and its more common for girls to develop a little quicker, my daughter was a talker however my son who is 10months and is only saying mum dad and yum, i know my doctor would ask at verious stages how many words does she say? so maybe at ur next appoinment just ask but i'm sure there is nothing to worry about at this stage.

Hi, my daughter is 11 months old on Wednesday and the only real word she says is Mama. So I wouldn't worry, I think it's completely normal. She "talks" non stop and yells and "sings" but nothing we understand!
