My Fiance and I are preparing to paint our house, What are some of your thoughts about painting with my 8 month old son in the house with us? I spoke with his pediatrician and she doesn't see a problem with it as long as the windows are open....

You can buy low or no VOC paint to reduce toxicity in the household air. Toxic fumes can be released long after you can't smell them. Be more proactive than your doctor knows.

We have painted our houses several times throughout the years and have 3 little ones, trick is to make sure there is plenty of opened windows and doors and to keep the smell from being overkill add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the paint, it doesn't harm the paint and makes it less of an overkill on smell.

I think as long as your doctor is ok with it, it would be ok. Are you painting near his bedroom? I would maybe suggest painting when he is napping. Open all the windows and close his door. If you are still unsure, you can always call another pediatrician and get a second opinion. Many doctors have different opinions, but some issues they tend to all have the same opinion on. If the second doctor says the same thing, I would go for it.

I'd just make sure there is plenty of air flow. Plus, stay away from oil based paint. Latex has less horrible breathable fumes. My husband accidentally bought Oil based Kilz while I was pregnant. I had to leave the house, and he looked high as a kite.
