My duaghter won't sleep through the night anymore. Nothing works. She used to sleep about ten hours from about one month till about six. Now since then, she is up two or three times a night, when we go only once a night its a great relief! Plus, I am five months pregnant and ever more tired. Any suggestions, besides leaving her to cry, and such. Oh, plus she keeps waking up screaming and crying like a nightmare, but i dont know if it could be night terrors? Anyone else have this?

hey ashley, you are sooo not alone in this.......My son is 16 months old and has started to do this too in the last couple of weeks, he has been waking up about 2 to 3 times around midnite and then 2 or so times around 3am and then another time about 5am and then wakes up for the day at about 6.30am. He has just popped out his 2nd set of molars......but he wakes up screaming like hes being murdered and we go in and hes still assleep and it takes ages to comfort him ....i find wispering to him and telling him hes ok, mummys here your safe etc helps a bit and i hold his hand till hes back to sleep.....I try not to pick him up coz i dont want him to get used to me doing that, they learn quick and i know he will learn to cry on purpose like that just to get a cuddle haha. He has been having bigger sleeps at his midday nap at daycare probably coz he is so tired.

Hi Ashley, i have a similar problem. My Boy, doesnt necessarily wake up. he screams, stands & hits me during his sleep. he changes positions like its nobodys business. he jumps on me & all sorts of other strange things happen while he is sleeping. its scares the hell out of me

Your daughter can sense the change that is about to happen ?

Our doctor told us a few weeks ago that at this age (about 16 months) they start to have more vivid dreams and yes, sometimes nightmares, and that might possibly wake them up. She suggested if it's a tired, whiney cry then they should easily go back to sleep, with help or alone, however you usually do it. But if it's a scared, frightened sort of sounding cry/scream, to be more comforting to them. :)

Crikey you poor thing. Sometimes our son gets up, more often than not it's because he's hungry. They are doing a lot of growing at this age. Also as Megan mentioned it could be teething. Also at this age from what I've been told they start to have an imagination. Would be pretty scarry waking up and not being able to hear mum or see anything with it being dark and all. Perhaps a nightlight? We found it helped our son when wakes up that way he can see where everything is. Although sometimes he does just have night terrors and needs a bit of reasurence and a cuddle. Good luck and I hope that helps

She might be teething or have an ear infection.I would have the doctor check her out.My son is 15 months and usually if he starts waking up alot at night he is probably sick or teething.Though new habits start quickly so when he starts to feel better,he will still wake up more til we break the habit agian.Usually when he wakes up(after i know he's feeling better) we will assure him he's ok then leave the room and with in 5 mins. he's asleep. Two night later it's usually broken.Obiviously if he's crying hysterically after 10 mins.,they don't feel well.Good luck,i know when your tired everything is always 10 times harder:)
