Sleeping through the night

When you guys say "sleeping through the night" are you guys referring to a 6 hour stretch of sleep? I have heard that is considered sleeping through the night for a little one. My baby will be 8 weeks on Monday and goes down at 9p and wakes up between 2-3am for a feed which is great. But then he will wake up 3 hours later and again 2 hours later which is wake up time anyways. I'm thinking he's so tired when he wakes up between 2-3a for his feed that he just gets a little satisfied and drifts off to dream land. Any suggestions? As you can tell I don't have a problem getting him back to sleep after he nursed. We co sleep and he's EBF.

i started offering Chloe her bink around 8 weeks when she'd wake up in the middle of the night... she'd go right back to sleep then!  then she'd wake up at 4am & again at 6 for feeds until 10 weeks when she decided to sleep through the night... i mean through... like 10-12 hours!!!  it's MARVELOUS!  i also feed her 4 times (once per hour in the four hours before she goes to bed at 8:pm)

My daughter eats 4 to 6 oz every feeding and I stock her up a little for the last one.  I am breast feeding but I supplement with formula once a day.

I'm breastfeeding and my son is 8 weeks and started to sleep through the night. Are you cluster feeding him before putting him down for bedtime? Before he was sleeping through the night, I was feeding him every 2 hours during the day to tank him up so he would be less hungry at night. He sleeps for a 6 hour stretch at night followed by a 3hour and then a 2 hour and we are up for the day. Are you also co sleeping? Some say baby's sleep better when they co sleep with their mommy's. I love it because it actually allows me and the baby to get more sleep. Good luck!

I am in a similar situation as Stacy that my son is eating every 3 hours almost like clockwork, even throughout the night. I am breastfeeding though. I feed around 9 and then 12 and put him in his crib. I would love to get him to sleep a few more hours b/c I am going back to work too. Also, are all of the rest of you formula feeding? I guess it really does make a difference.

Hi, My son is 8 weeks old and I was curious how many ounces you guys are all feeding your babes.  I give him 5 ounces about every three hours and he wakes up every three hours throughout the night as well.  I would like for him to sleep at least 5 or 6 hours since I am returning to work in 5 weeks.  Maybe by then he will!!  I usually feed him around 9pm and then again at midnight, we then put him in his crib and he will sometimes sleep until 2 or 3 and want to eat.  We were originally putting him down at 9pm but then he would wake up at 1 and then again at 3.  He does nap throughout the day for 30 min sometimes an hour a couple times per day.

Get Baby Wise!  It's a Godsend!  Also, when he wakes up at 2 or 3....listen!  Sometimes they wake up a little and don't even cry.  Give it 5 minutes.  If he does cry, feed him.  But he may just fall back asleep. My daughter wakes up a little and falls back to sleep before I can even get in there.

My 2 month old eats every three hours like clock work and wakes herself up to feed. She has slept 7-8 hours since she was a month old, and is in NO way malnourished.  I'm a night person so I feed her at 11:30 and she wakes up around 7:30.  I feed her then, and she'll sit and play for a bit and goes back to sleep.  As long as they get enough calories and fluid during the day, they'll sleep through the night and it's perfectly safe.  In fact they are happier for it because they aren't having interrupted sleep.

I guess i am lucky with my baby he is 10 weeks on saturday and has slept through since he was 5 weeks old, that is anytime from 10pm through til 9 am the next morning. I upped his last bottle from 6oz to 7 so he always has more at night and also i do the same in the morning too then go back to 6oz bottles throughout the daytime. He seems content with this. I also give him a ounce of cool boiled water early evening so he waits a bit longer for his last feed this also helps. If this does not work for you i am sure like someone else mentioned in time your baby will settle longer as he gets older good luck

Mine was doing something similar to what you are saying for a while, but when he hit his next growth spurt, he started sleeping less again. Good thing I'm a sahm, or I would be wilted most days. :)  So I don't guess I really have a suggestion, because that sounds great to me! lol

my 10 week old baby at about 8 weeks was doing the same, and as the time goes on she is sleeping a little better, we are now at the stage where she goes to bed at 11pm and is up by 7am, which is a bit nicer as she goes to bed at the same time as me and gets up the same time as me. It would be nicer if she went to bed earlier but as they get older and more alert and interact more, they will get more tired and sleep more. roll on those days hey!
