my son will be 9 months old tomorrow, and when I tell him no in a stern voice he looks at me smiles & giggles and does it again, and when I go to take him away, he laughs again and crawls back to whatever I was saying no too... I feel like he really thinks it's a game of some sort.... any advice???

I just don't think a 9 month old can understand no. We do redirect, taking them from what they are doing and putting them somewhere else. They really need a safe place to play with out having things that are "no". we put barriers up and keep him locked in the living room (where all the toys are) Also, when we are in the kitchen, i let him play in my tupperware cabinet. Anytime he tries to go to the pots and pans cabinet or something else, i just move him back to the tupperware, now he goes for the tupperware everytime. he likes to pull it all out and crawl in there.

My daughter looks right at you, shakes her head no, and does it anyway.

Mine does that too. If I raise my voice and say "no" sharply .... he just bursts into tears - and continues doing what he was doing ...

I need advise too, but I feel your pain!

My daughter is the same way...except that she gets such an impish grin when I tell her no...it's like she understands but just doesnt care :) Her grandmother on her fathers side tells her no very sternly but that just makes her cry, and I won't do that. I just end up moving her a thousand times...she is a stubborn scorpio afterall lol

Hun My son does exactly the same thing! I just make sure i dont smile back with him and recently ive been sitting him down and not letting him move for about 30seconds so he learns that ewhen i say no i mean it. it is hard but hopfully its just a stage for them to see how far they can push us!

my daughter was the same so i started having to say it in an even louder and more stern voice as she kept trying to go for the plugs and now she knows... but she still tries.

my son will be 9 months on the 20th...i tell him no in a very stern voice he will listen sometimes and other times he wont. its like he is starting to understand what it means but just wants to push my buttons already. just keep up with it....eventually he'll learn just takes some time

My little girl goes for anything and everything she is not supposed to have, and then she laughs if we say anything. We remove her and try to distract her with something new. It usually works, but it takes a couple of times. Eventaully he should pick up on the "no" deal. Just stay consistant. It's amazing how they play games with us at such a young age. My mom says it's just payback.

One of the daycares I looked at said they use the distraction method of discipline. That stuck with me and as my son becomes more mobile I am hearing myself say no more too and try to just distract him....seems to be working ok so far. But I think everything is a game now, like the "pick up" game, when he drops his cup off the high chair for me to pick up, I ignore it for now before he really gets too much in to that game.....these babies are getting too smart.
