My boy is turning 3 yrs in a few days and time outs have always been the go to for discipline, but lately it doesn't seen to have an effect. he sits on time out and enters his own little world, and has even told me he didn't want to come off time out. I don't know what to do. he will apologize for wrongs but hes more so saying sorry because i'm telling him to. does anyone have any suggestions???

We, at the recommendation of a friend who got the idea from a counselor, have turned the knob around on LO's door. Instead of timeout, we literally LOCK him in his room. He HATES to be removed from the action, removed from us. It is VERY effective and just the "threat" is usually enough to stop him in his tracks. Time out was a bust for us too!!

I would suggest taking toys away from him, no special treats, etc. He's old enough to realize it's a punishment and sometimes that's more effective for me than a timeout. Hope that helps a bit.
