I started feeding my daughter rice cereal at 2 months. Started out with a little bit each day and made it very runny. She is 3 months now and loves it and eats almost 1/2cup everynight. She is also sleeping through the night (10hrs). I dont think there is a need to wait till 4 months if they are holding there head up by them self.

At my daughter's 2 month appt, I asked her Pedi about that. She said usually around 4 months you can start introducing rice cereal mixed with formula or breastmilk by spoon. Even thinned out cereal can get stuck in the nipple of bottles and can frustrate your baby. I'm waiting till Avarielle's 4 month appt. to get approval from her Pedi.

I have heard of people starting their babies on rice cereal as early as two months. I tried my baby on Rice cereal the other day, just made it really runny, fed him with a spoon. I also put a little in his bottle the other day too, I am not giving him much, just a little. I will probably give him a little every few days until he is 4 months old and then start giving it to him more frequently.

usually they recommend 6 months is when you start feeding them food unless they can swallow thicker food and they need the extra nutrients.if you try to feed them rice cereal and they just push it out with their tounge then they are not ready for foods yet.. unless it is recommended by the doctor DO NOT force feed them

The rule of thumb these days is to wait until the baby is 6 months before introducing any solids. (unless your doctor has recommended starting earlier due to poor weight gain etc). You begin with rice cereal that is very runny and gradually thicken it over time. You feed it with a spoon, then on to an oat cereal typically next.

I haven't started my son on cereal yet but I have read many articles that said you should introduce it from 4-6 months. It depends on how often your child eats and if they can turn their head away when they are full. Sorry I am not much help.
