Hi, I'm from Aus and gave birth to a baby boy on friday 13th November. I'm am looking for pros and cons on whether to have him circumsised as it seems to be very controversial. Just wondering whether you had your sons done and how you decided.

I had it done when he was just a week or so old. He never even cried and never seemed to have any discomfort from it. You're right, it is a very controversial subject. Just do whatever feels best to you and your family. Good luck :)

I too, found this a very difficult decision. I know the pro's and the cons. I also had an added difficulty, my partner is a partial haemophiliac, meaning it takes a while for his blood to clot. When he was circumcised as a child, he nearly died due to blood loss. It scared me really badly and I didn't know what to do, so I spoke with male friends, both circumcised and uncircumcised. I took what they told me into account and then I spoke to my family and the doctor. In the end, I decided against circumcision. The doctor said there is no longer a medical reason for it, and it is actually classed now as cosmetic surgery. I am sure that if you decide to circumcise him, he will be fine. I am not against circumcision, and had always believed that I would circumcise any boy that was mine, but when it came down to the crunch, we opted the other way. You are the childs mother and I am sure you will do what is right for your son. Talk to his dad maybe, and see what he thinks, and then make your own decision. I think you are a great mum, being informed before making the decision is the best way to go. Goodluck and if you decide to go down that lane, I am sure everything will be fine.

My son was circumcised the day after he was born. I just decided to get it done because i was raised that most boys get circumcised but there is no medical reason nowadays that they cannot. Its just personal preference more than anything. With either decision you have to keep the area clean to prevent infection. But with my son's circumcison it was red and slightly swollen after it was done and by the night of the next day most of the swelling was gone. His circumcision was completely healed by about 2 or 2 1/2 weeks.

I had my son done at two weeks old. He did great. I stayed in the room with him. He cried a little when they numbed him up but that was it. He came home a slept for a few hours and that was it.

I didn't get either of my boys circumsised. There is no longer a "medical" reason for it, more so just religion and cultural reasons. I, for one, could not put my baby in what I consider pain that is not needed. Most parents of little boys I know didn't get their sons circumsised either, as a matter of fact, all my friends with boy except one havent gotten their sons done.
