Obama is casting health care reform as a "now or never" issue.
What do you think? And what would you like to see in legislation that would overhaul the healthcare system?

I think that's a great idea Sara! But I agree with you Theresa money talks and lets face it I don't think there is a politician left who hasn't been bought and paid for.

I definitely think it is important to address now, especially with those projections that came out a couple of weeks ago about Medicare.
I think the best course of action would be for the government to set up a basic health insurance plan that every American could have access to, not only people that can't afford basic health care, but also the rest of us could buy into it as well. I think the major benefit to that would be that other insurance companies would have to change the way they were doing business if there was a legitimate competitor (the government) that didn't have all the stupid clauses that they have now on pre-existing conditions, in-network benefits, etc. I think that would be a great way to spur reform in the system and also make the conservatives happy because it's not "socialized" medicine.
I agree with you Sara! The government setting up a health care plan as an option for all Americans is the way to go! Not only will everyone have the option to utilize the plan but insurance and pharmecuetical companies, would absolutely have to change the way they do business.
The problem is that when insurance companies lose money, politicans (who accept lobbyist donations) lose money. When pharmecuetical companies can't hold a drug patent for 2-5 years and profit, politicians don't profit. When companies make money by denying much needed medical coverage and tests, they can contribute more money into the campaign of the politician who supports them.
In order for these companies to compete with a government plan, they will have to have set prices for each drug, test or procedure. Somehow the conservatives (and some democrats) will say that a government health care plan will tear apart american businesses and the idea of captalism. So many of our representatives have so much money tied to them via the medical and pharmecuetical companies, I wonder if real change take place.
With a government health care plan, everybody wins!
