Is Obama Soft?

People are stronger with words than actions. People who do things slowly are the ones who get things done-too much commotion=is just that commotion no real action. Why is it that we always have to go to violence? The president is being realistic and a communicator not summiting himself to anything like critics say. Republicans need to stop being so negative about everything and work with the president for solutions-we are safer now because the world is seeing the US in a more positive way. I think our president is trying to work with world leaders and is making the US stronger than ever.

Obama has a clear understanding of International Relations. Plain and simple. By respectfully acknowledging the Muslim community as a group of diverse individuals, he's taken a giant step in the right direction. Having a president that understands this makes us safer than the continual disrespect they received from the Bush administration. Same situation w Chavez and Iran. Come on already! I guess Republicans think it is a better policy to act like children and just refuse to speak to those who won't do what we want them to. Diplomacy is the answer. Obama gets it! His Iran policy is one of the reasons I liked him so much during the primaries.

Of course they are going to say that! I mean, look where all that great Bush Era diplomacy has gotten us. Aren't we way better off now then we were 8 years ago...whatever. The stupid republicans just have to bitch about something. I don't see it as soft, I see it as DIPLOMACY, which is quite frankly a weird concept to them! I wonder if they think Mother Theresa or Ghandi or MLK were wimps as well,, I mean, they certainly didn't accomplish anything through non-violence, did they?

All morning I have been hearing the news shows referring to Obama as soft and ineffective. The republicans are saying that, "if George Bush was a cowboy, than Obama is a whimp". They criticize him for not bombing North Korea before and/or after the missile launch. They also said he is "submitting" to the muslim world by agreeing to meet with them and hold talks with them. Dick Cheney himself said that Obama is making the U.S. less safe then before 9/11. What do you think?

in this day and age where people are getting more in touch with their true selves and understanding who they are in the context of spirituality, i am amazed that there are people still cheering on the 'bullies' and frowning and giving scathing attacks  to the guys who want to resolve differences calmly and with dialogue. as a mother of two boys, i would much rather raise an 'Obama' - "soft" or not.

Because of the republicans and their cowboy George Bush we are in this mess, there is a difference between soft and trying to do the right thing. With all the cowboy attitude we have had in the WH for the past 8 years, how come the Middle East is still in such a mess and we are in 2 wars that does not seem to be going anywhere. The republicah created this mess and now they want Obama to fix it in 3 months....Dick Cheney should do what Bush is doing, keeping quiet.

As far as I'm concerned being rid of Cheney is the best thing to happen to this country in a LONG time. There will never be a person who can convince me he wasn't calling most of the shots in the Bush administration and look where that got us. Also, I thought talking to other nations and developing a civil relationship with them was the goal. We cannot just be in a constant state of war with them just because we don't agree with most of them. Diplomacy is key in the situation we are now in. And going back to the automatic assumption that muslim=bad, that is ridiculous. Just because someone is a different religion does not mean we should persecute them. If Obama were a muslim it would not effect in any way my opinion of him. Every religion under the sun has extremist members, even christianity. We should not steer clear of an entire group, just be aware of the members who may go too far. What happened to freedom of religion anyway? The constitution does not say you have the freedom to practice any chosen religion unless we get mad at some other followers then we are allowed to assume your bad person and persucute you. Thats just not how it works, but politicians are just so good at interpreting things to make them convienient for there party alone. You can never please everyone and the republicans had their shot for the past 8 years. It's our turn to try and fix things now, so let them complain day and night. There really isn't much else they can do about it.

Also I agree with a previous post about jumping the gun and bombing places being ridiculous. Maybe he doesn't go in with an iron fist because he cares about the lives of the American people. (WOW...what an idea) If you keep bombing people, retaliation will come. Why bring all of that unto the people you are governing? And does Cheney have a leg to stand on by saying Obama is making the US less safe than before 9/11? The man can't even move boxes without hurting his back--maybe since he had a hand in causing all of this chaos, he can take the place of one of the soldiers and get a first hand account of what his brand of diplomacy acheives. He's really good at sending people off to die and collecting the payola. He seems to have a lot of mouth--Mr. Crimes against humanity.

Aren't they sore losers? Do you mend fences with an old friend by driving your car into their garage? it takes more courage, heart, and intelligence to promote peace and diplomacy. And this is what happens when you finally get an honors student in the White House and not a party-boy flunk out. Wow, intelligent conversation and measured action! What a new way of doing things!

As for submitting to the Muslim world statement, I HATE when people say meeting with people of the Middle East means they are representing Islam. It's not. It would be like saying Iraqis are submitting to the Christian world, if they met and worked with the U.S.A. As a Muslim, I am always offended and frustrated that people think Middle Eastern is synonymous with Muslim. It's not. Just because the major religion in that region is Islam does NOT mean they are speakers for the religion. Would you say Obama is a speaker or representative for Christianity?

I so agree with you on this. Jumping the gun and bombing a country would be ridiculous. This criticism is coming from the other side that will always have something negative to say. It kills me that there are people out there referring to President Obama as Muslim as if it would be a big deal even if he was. Are Muslim Americans not worthy of being president now? Some people are just ridiculous.
