no gallbladder for next time

Does anyone know if I will still get obstetric cholestasis in future pregnancies now that my gallbladder is out. Is there any correlation? I had it in my first pregnancy and then had my gallbladder taken out four weeks post-partum.

It may not help all that much because though your gall bladder is responsible for secreting bile, once you take out the gall bladder your liver takes over to do that instead. Cholestasis is tested based on not only your bile acid levels but also your liver enzyme levels.

I had oc with my second child. Then my gallbladder out less than a year after he was born. My ob said it probably wouldn't help. I am currently 31 weeks and itching again. It has more to do with the liver than the gallbladder unfortunately.

I was diagnosed with cholestasis with my second child, at week 37, and it was very mild. Years later, after hearing that gall bladder problems are very common with pregnancies, I had a flash back to a constant dull ache "under my right ribs" that I believed was my child's foot pressing against something. I had that with both children. I now believe that was my gall bladder aching, and the aching stopped after the baby was delivered. My unscientific guess is that there is a correlation between gall bladder and cholestasis, and that I probably had mild, undiagnosed cholestasis with my first pregnancy as well. So it seems possible that removing the gall bladder would prevent cholestasis.
