my name is carrie, i have just been diagnosed with obstetric cholestasis, i'm worried, i'd never heard of this before now. sometimes too much reasearch can be distressing and that is what i've done, hopefully once this community is filled we'll all help each other with our own stories of our cases which will paint a better picture than morbid statistics.

hi, i had obsetric cholestasis during both my past pregnancies and im know i will also suffer now im pregnant again. try not to be overly worried now you are known to have the condition you will be looked after correctly with regular blood tests and ctgs to ensure baby is doing well. i was induced at 38 weeks with my second pregnancy which is what most hospital guidelines agree on. i had twins in my first pregnancy and went into natural labour at 30 weeks but dont worry this wasnt due to cholestasis just my body couldnt do it anymore the stress of twins pregnancy was too much for me. you will likely have a growth scan around 34 weeks to check baby is growing regular and come up with a plan to induce you so they can monitor baby during labour to ensure no problems may occur. all 3 of my children are perfectly healthy so baby will be fine once born and ur bile acids will decrease really quickly after birth. i found i did suffer with having gallstones after 2nd pregnancy which could be linked to OC and had to have my gallbladder removed but that is only side affect i have suffered. good luck with it and if you are worried speak to your midwife or consultant if you have one.
