My son just turned 4 in October and we haven't had the time or finances to start looking for a preschool for him. He stays at home with my Grandma during the day so he doesn't really have social skills. I get him around other kids any chance I get but he stilll shys away. Next year is when he should start kindergarten and I just don't know what to do. My Grandma works really well with him on things he should be learning in Pre K (ie. numbers, letters, words, etc.) but his social skills are my concern since he is the only child and even worse, the only GRANDCHILD!! Please help...

My daughter is in a preschool but it's at a local elementary School here in Anchorage, AK she's been going since she was two years old and now she's five years old and this is her last year, her birthday was too late for her to go into kindergarden October 27, 2005. I know alot of people who don't put their kids thru pre-school and just puts them in kindergarden. is if that helps. he will be shy for a while til he gets the hang of being around other kids; he'll like it a lot. my oldest my five year is like that. But once she's gotten use to it, she isn't shy anymore! And if that doesn't help with his social skills like with my daughter she did like a group therapy with other kids to get her skills up, she was really delayed and still is to a point

I found local play groups that meet a couple times a week. The ones I found are run by the state and they help a lot. If yoru state doesn't have a program like this, a lot of times there are mother run play groups.

There is usually something in ur comunity that has financial help with schooling. Or even the preschool its self. But for his social skills set up play dates at least 2ce a week with ur friends or if you go to church get with some of the parents and see if you can set up playdates. They really do help a lot.
