My daughter did not like to lay in the tub at all for me to wash her hair. She would scream and cry. Then, I tried the cup and she didn't like that. Now, as soon as I put her in the tub, she will lean back on her arms and I'll cover her face and wash her hair under the running water. She likes this a lot better and it gets the hard part out in the beginning.

I just roll up a face cloth and have my girls help hold it on their forehead and tilt their head back while I rinse and it seems to work for me. No more complaints from them.

you can look online and they have something like a visor where you can put it on her and pour the water direstly on her head and it will make it go to the side or back and avoid it getting into her eyes

I make my little boy hold a sponge in front of his eyes, no soap or shampoo gets in them then.

Not sure where you live, I'm in Canberra Aus, here we have a hat you can buy (at the chemist) that goes on their head all the way around and it blocks the water going on their face completely. It looks like a sunflower hat in a way and extends about 5-7cm all the way around their head. You simply just slip it on and wash their hair. I have used it with all 3 of my childern all who hated their hair being done, cups, washers and laying down failed. Once you get them used to waring it it is much easier that sometimes takes a while. good luck!

I usually just lay my son down in the water and rinse his hair out that way because he is also at the stage where the water over his face drives him crazy. he will lay down most of the way then i put my hand behind his neck and support him mostly out of the water and rinse it that way, it takes them time to get use to it, but there is a lot less crying and fuss when it comes to rinsing out his hair. Good luck!

I tried those plastic rinse cups for my kids... They didn't like it, since they had to tilt their heads way back. I use a visor you can get from Wal Mart or a craft store. They are made of foam and meant to be used for crafts projects. They are only like $1. I will put it on to rinse the front and sides, then take it off to rinse the back. They do sell special ones for babies at babies r us, but I have found the cheaper ones are easier to use.

I bought a plastic rinse cup at walmart that forms to their forehead. It works great for my daughter! It was in the baby section!

I taught my son how to close his eyes. When I rinse his head I just use a cup and let the water go over his face and he doesn't seem to mind. I tried for a long time to get him to tilt his head back and do it that way but he wouldn't do it so I just said "Oh well...either close your eyes or get soap in them". He closes them. Plus, he's taught himself how to hold his breath as well. And just after I pour the water, I take my hand and wipe from the forehead down to his chin, just to make sure he doesn't inhale any water.

sometimes just using a a folded up flannel on the foreheads when you rinse works. i count with my daughter. she still doesn't like it much but she knows that when i get to 3 it is time to have water on her head. she usually closes her eyes then i wipe them after wards, before the next rinsing. it does take longer but it usually has less crying and upsets. ultermatly i don't think any child is happy about it.

i know you can also get those rinse cups at walmart for like 4 or 5 bucks. i got one for my daughter but it really hasnt helped much because by the time i got it she was already freaked out about water over her head. it works best if you can get them to look up at you while you do it.

Hi Laura,

My son was as well complaining when I got shampoo and water in his eyes (maybe it's just the age they are at). I don't know where you live, but at Toys R Us (if you have one) I bought a rinse pitcher with a silicone part that conforms to their forehead. copy and paste link below

I've only had mine for a couple of days, but my son doesn't seem to get stuff in his eyes anymore and hasn't complained since.

HTH :)
