I've run out of meal ideas!

My daughter has only 2 teeth, and I feel like everyday she eats the same thing. I'd like to give her new things, but I am terrified that she will choke on something.

Any ideas??

My 13 month old finally has four teeth.. however when he had just a few I would give him red grapes and bananas cut in fourths... he also loves peas and string cheese in tiny pieces. I always just made sure the pieces were small and most of the time when he felt they were to big- he would spit them out. Hopw this helps some... happy eating!

Here are our usuals:

String cheese (diced)

Black beans

Peas

Carrots (cooked and diced. You can do this with other veggies too.)

Toast

Oatmeal (messy!)

Yogurt (also messy)

Pancakes

Scrambled egg

Cereal bars

Gerber Yogurt Melts (these are a huge hit)

Mashed potatoes

Green beans

Torn up chicken or beef or pork (whatever we're eating)

Avacado

I cut tofu into small cubes and then shake it in a bag with some crushed up cereal (I think they're called Gorilla Munchies, they're like Kix but from Whole Foods). The cereal makes it easier to pick up and gives it a little more flavor. My daughter loves it!

With my little guy I started off giving him the gerber food, but found he didn't care too much for it. He always wanted to eat the food I had. He was gumming my food log before he had teeth. (he was about 5 months) I would give him mashed potatoes (in tiny bits) or puree whatever I am eatting. When he got more teeth, I would give little bits he could just swallow (doesn't nececially have to chew the food). They can still eat. Also those little mesh things that you can stick the food inside (can't remember what they were called) you can also buy baby food cookbooks for ideas

Hi...my daughter also has only two teeth. She eats regular 'big people' food. She would not eat Stage 3 foods. I know it seems like they eat the same thing all the time, but that's ok. Just keep a list on the fridge of the food she does like and keep adding to it when you find something new. So far, my daughter eats eggs, pancakes/waffles, bread, meatballs (beef and turkey), pasta, yogurt, apple sauce, peas, cooked carrots, peas, (frozen peas and carrots are good to keep on hand, just boil till really soft), graham crackers, sweet potatoes, sweet potato fries, fruit canned or jarred in its own juice - not in syrups, chicken, bananas, tiny pieces of cheese. I cut everything up very small. Good luck - I hope you got some ideas here.

I give her stage 3 foods along with "people food". She really likes the cereal/fruit mixes. She also eats grilled cheese, peanut butter sandwiches, mashed or baked potatoes, very tiny pieces of chicken, ham or hamburger, tiny pieces of apple, bananas, pasta, mac & cheese, crackers etc...

Babies don't need teeth to chew, their gums are very hard! Make up a pot of pasta with chopped or grated vegies and sauce, and freeze in individual serving size containers. Then each day she has it you can add some meat, chicken, tuna etc.

Make a pot of lentil & veg casserole, that is very healthy and contains iron (I can give you the recipe if you want it).

Try baked beans on baked potato or sweet potato.

All different fruit cut into chunks (cut grapes in half longways).

Hard boiled egg.

Mini-size muffins - banana & coconut, yoghurt & sultana, apple & pear.

My daughter eats what everybody else eats. I just cut it up in little pieces. Try it. You'll be surprised what your LO can eat with only 2 teeth.

I think you just have to try it out! Make sure the pieces are very small. If my daughter seems to have trouble with a piece of food, she usually just spits it out!! LoL

I still give my daughter stage 3's from time to time. Yet, she has 4 teeth and is anxious to eat what everyone else eats in the house. But, I must admit much of what I eat I do not believe she ready for. So, I offer the following: yogurt, crackers, mashed bananas, oatmeal, various toddler puff, some noodles (that have been cut), applesauce, and soft bread that I usually cut into a smaller size.

I have seen food teethers in stores. Its like a soother, but its a mesh bag that you can put solid foods into. The food they can actually get it is small enough pieces to fit through the mess. That way baby can gum away on new foods without you having to worry about her choking. I havent tried it mind you, Sierra is a reg little beaver, but I always thought it was a neat idea!

Once my daughter got her 2 bottom teeth she wanted nothing to do with being feed. She would only eat food she could pick up and put in her mouth herself. I give her just about anything. I test it with my fingers if I can smash it with out to much effort then I feel like she wont have trouble chewing it. Try using spices like nutmeg on sweet potato cubes, or make a cheese sauce with yellow mustard and add noodles that are easy to pick up, make french toast using cinnamon bread and vanilla in egg batter no need for syrup it will have lots of flavor, frozen peas are good, so is string cheese small pieces cut it in coins then in quarters. My method of testing whether she will be able to eat the food is I smash it with my finger if it brakes up with out too much effort then she will have no trouble gumming it down.

I am actually a new member and I feel I am having the same problem. My LO was born Oct 19, and sometimes I feel I am not feeding her enough food and I fear she is going to choke. I am getting a little better at not over reacting when I hear a gag noise from her. Also I wanted to know if anyone still feeds their LO's the jarred food anymore. I am afraid I am using it as a crutch

ANother idea - If you put chicken in a blender with a bit of water - you can actually squish it back together into small ballsand it will fall apart in her mouth, but she can still pick them up with her hands. I found that out by accident.

My son has als onnly 2 teeth (nearly 3), but he eats nearly everything! We started we pieces of breath. When the pieces are too big, he let them come out of his mouth.

Mine only has two teeth, too. I have been giving him grilled cheese, torn up lunchmeat, torn up chicken nuggets, very soft overcooked veggies, lots of cheese as the others have said. I also have a cheaper version of the Magic Bullett that I throw our food in there for him when he can't chew what we are having. He also loves macaroni and cheese.

Have you tried string cheese? Your daughter can 'gum' it or chew it. My son was able to eat an entire tube with no teeth. :)

I used to be afraid that my daughter would choke on something until the day she got into my chocolate almond bar. I was so impressed taht she actually had chewed those almonds that I felt confident giving her other things. If your daughter can handle cheerios and stuff then you could try other things too. It's amazing how they can grind with their gums.

Aria is a big fan of Applesauce, cheese cubes, peanut butter sandwiches, cereal bars, oatmeal-all things mushy enough that your baby should be able to chew with only a couple of teeth. Then just watch her as she eats on something and after a few times of seeing how she does you will not be terrified anymore!
