I know what you are saying about the first birthday-we had a halloween/birthday party and when it came to cake time we cleared the table and put a 1st b'day them tablecloth and plates and cups....just for the photo op...
I sometimes wonder if she will hate Halloween because her birthday gets kind of lost in the craziness of the day (like with her friends) In the future I think we will try to have a small celebration the day of and a birthday party for her on another (not halloween) day. It has always been our favorite holiday and I hope she doesn't wind up resenting it... Not that I'm loosing sleep over it, I know there are waaaay bigger things to worry about in life, but it's something I wonder about...
Halloween here (in NYC) is HUGE as it is I'm sure in most places so her birthday week will always be a great celebration, we have parades in almost any neighborhood in the city and stuff going on in the parks and museums. I couldn't think of a more fun week to celebrate your birthday.....

In reply to Kristene Laflash I wish I had done this jus had a normal 1st birthday party. Every year my mom and dad have a halloween party for the grandkids so we decided to combine the both which was big mistake. Grace didnt enjoy it everytime she saw a mask she screamed the place down it scared her too much so i think next year it will be seperate parties so then at least she can enjoy her birthday party. Thank you for all your replies

Add one more to the Halloween birthday party! My daughter was destined to be a holiday baby. Her entire dad's side is born on some sort of holiday (eg aunt is Valentine's, dad was born Labor Day his year, Grandma is Groundhog Day, Grandpa was Passover his year, etc).
We found out we were having her on St Patrick's Day. Her due date was Thanksgiving that year. She tried to come early on Columbus Day, but we convinced her to stay in until I went back into labor on October 29. We thought she'd be born the 30th, but strangely my labor stopped progressing when I was at 8 cm. Right before midnight I was suddenly at 10 cm and we started pushing 12:01 Halloween morning.
Glad she shares such a fun birthday with your kids!

My son is a Halloween baby. I am a L&D nurse and always told my patients that I was hoping for Halloween when they asked when I was due, even though it wasn't until 11/11. Then when my bag of waters broke the afternoon of the 30th I new I would end up with a "scary" night. We had a costume party for his first birthday party. It was so much fun at 1 that I can't wait for the fun as he gets older!!
