Quoting Siobhan:

my lo is on zantac and domperidone but i worry cause her reflux makes her chesty when shes sick also she did fail to thrive between months 2 & 4 so she only weighs 12lbs 8oz at 6 1/2 months i just worry worry about her.

Just a few bits of information that were passed on to me, my son is almost 7 months old and is much better now, but was also on baby zantac for a while.

keep them sitting upright as much as possible while they eat and for 1 hour after eating, sleep on a 60 degree angle, never flat on their back, tummy time on your chest so they can still be on an angle since tummy time is about developing neck and arm support, it doesn't have to be done on the floor, you can try cereal in a bottle (which is controversal now...wasn't 10 years ago) or start giving cereal by spoon at 4 months (which is what my doc asked me to do...big improvement), and Salinex...I can't suggest this one strongly enough..my son was very mucousy from the reflux and the hydrasense ultragentle salinex worked wonders!

WOW domperidone I took that to increase my milk supply for my extremly prem wee man.

Anyway I was told the same thing as siobhan, I had 2 with reflux my #2 boy had blind reflux and was put on omperazol my #3 baby has reflux and he is on gaviscon He still has the wee spill but not as often. However if he is not burped at every 30-50mls you can highly expect  he will vomit the whole bottle back up. I was also told to keep them up right 15-20minutes after a feed and Believe it or not it is highly recommened and a proven and researched fact to use a pacifier as sucking on 1 helps keep the acid down. every mum I spoke to with a reflux baby said that there babies all used 1 my #2 baby took to his straight away however my #3 baby only used his for around a month.

I have also been advised to raise there cots to at least a 45 Degree angle min

I so feel for all those mums with reflux babies #2 is now 17months he grew out of his by 14months he still has the odd spell of reflux but not near as bad! my #3 is However 3months term so he is only at a 3month stage but his seems to be settling but combining all these suggestions dramatically improve there uncomfortablness the poor wee things

I was watching a programme on the telly the other day and it was dealing with exactly this prroblem and some of the advise that was given on there was really good and did work for the parents of the baby concerned. one of the pointers given include after feeding lie on an angle of about 30 degrees this will prevent the acid coming up. These parents were shown many ways to help there child through his bout of reflux. the programme was the baby whisperer on home and health channel.

I also remember my doctor saying that right after feeding...to lay Tatum on her right side for 15 minutes......Apparently their stomachs empty on the right side....so this position helps it not come back up....we did that initially .... but stopped after her reflux got better.

We put cereal in her bottle too. We use oatmeal because rice makes her constipated. Our Dr. said you can use as much as one tablespoon per an once. Our friend's baby had reflux too. After a while the Zantac didn't work for her anymore and they had her on Prevacid. maybe ask you Dr. about that.

It's normal to worry. I worry about everything when it comes to my baby. Just keep talking to your Dr. and ask lots of questions. Following your Dr.'s direction is all you can do, and hey, they went tyo a lot of school to know how to direct you. Best of luck. There is a group on here for Mom's of kids with reflux too.

my daughter was put on zantac, too, at 3 months old. but they also told me to add rice cereal to her formula. for an 8 oz bottle i put rice cereal in first to about the 3 oz line, then water, then formula. it thickens the mix, and helps her keep it down. the zantac sort of worked when i could get her to swallow it! also just don't let them lay down after they've eaten for at least 30 minutes. that helps keep the food down, too.

I agree with Shelby. Our daughter has been on baby Zantac since she was two months. She is a completetly different baby. IT is wonderful. I do think she is already stating to grow out of it. Reflux is suppose to be the worst between 4 and 5 months and they usually grow out of it by 8 months. I would strongly recomened the Zantac is your baby has it.

My daughter has reflux, she has had it since birth & is nearly 7 months. My nephew had it for 12 months when he was a baby. I imagine they usually grow out of it by 12months.

My daughter just turned 6 months and has reflux....she' been on prescription Zantac for about 2 months now...it really helps....you can tell when it's time for dose....she'll start to spit up alot right before she's due. I was concerned about it and the doctor said that she should grow out of it.....she didn't seem worried about it at all....she also said that it is ok if they are on the meds for awhile...and that it has no affect on them. Is your child on meds for it? It has worked wonders for us...Tatum had a really hard time eating because of it and she is completely normal now.
