I'm thinking about starting rice cereal to my son's bedtime bottle (with hopes that he will sleep longer), what is the best way to enlarge the nipple hole so he is not struggling to get the milk out?

you should be able to buy medium or fast flow nipples for your bottles.  the holes are bigger.

my mom used to heat up a thick sewing needle with the flame from the stove and then go through the same hole to make it wider. i am assuming it worked. i was around 10 or 11 years old when i saw her do it for my sister's bottles.

My pediatrician said to never put cereal in a bottle unless it is "prescribed" by the physcian for a medical reason (i.e. severe reflux).  She also said that it will not make a difference in "helping" a baby sleep longer, through the night, etc.  My daughter has had cereal from a spoon a few times during the past week, but I cannot attest to this because she has been sleeping through the night since she was 9 weeks old.  Basically, cereal is used at first for "practice".  Just a little bit will fill their tiny tummys, but still offer a bottle/breast after.  She told me that cereal should not be used to "replace" a formula/breast feeding.

Good luck :)

Yeah I too was going to say to spoon feed him instead. It doesn't need to be much tho..coz remember his tummy is still quite small, and then when he's had a few spoonfulls of cereal, top him up with his formula..and remember that because you're offering him solids, he won't take all of his formula now. ;-D

not sure if this is what you want to hear, but I've heard and read that you shouldn't do that - it's better to feed the rice cereal from a bowl with a spoon.
