my son has been army crawling for about 2 months now, he gets up on his knees too but mostly the army crawl. which does not bother me since i know he can do both but he is pulling himself up already and it seems so soon after crawling. i now they say some kids skip crawling and go right to walking but when he pulls himself up it seems like his legs buckle. not sure what to do and sometimes he hits his head on the floor, we have carpet but i am worried that it might hurt him.

My daughter has only been crawling for one week. She has been trying to pull her self up since she started crawling. She is very persistant in trying to get mommy and daddy to hold her hands while she walks around. I thought it was a fast progression but gotta face the facts that they are getting older and more self sufficient. My daughter also has had her days where she falls more than I would like her to and we have hard wood floors which scares me because there is absolutely no padding when she hits. Luckily she seems to be a little toughie and only cries for a few seconds and is right back to trying it again.

My daughter has started pulling up; so much so that if we don't let her she screams at us! My oldest took a good spill when she was 9 months old; hit her head on my oak coffee table. Got a nice big black eye and a goose-egg on her cheekbone. Scared me half to death. I actually called 911! The ER doctor I spoke with told me that kids bounce back, and any injuries they give themselves from 'walking incidents' will rarely harm them. They're low enough to the ground that it's not a long fall. My neighbor told me that their son used to run INTO walls full speed. Repeatedly. Their doctor said (and I quote) "Babies are made of RubberMaid. They always get back up when they hurt themselves. It's their parents they scar for life." So very true...Deep breaths, this too shall pass!

I had to stop letting my daughter sleep in my bed a few weeks ago. I was awakened one morning to squeals of delight, I rolled over to find my daughter hanging off my headboard!! I seriously think she's part monkey! Don't worry about the tumbles, I have hardwood floors and bought foam tiles to put down in her play area to cushion the blows. She has now figured out how to fall on her bum from a standing position. She monkey crawls (on one knee and one foot) like grease lightning but is constantly pulling herself up on anything she sees. She likes to stand and spot the next item she's going to find to chew! I had to buy a Superyard this week to keep her out of trouble when I have to leave the room! Best investment until she figures out she's strong enough to lift it and get under it!

oh and the falling thing - Addison does several face plants a day... but as long as her crying doesn't persist than I know she is ok.. they somehow all learn to figure it out!

my daughter is doing the same thing - make sure you drop your crib now... she woke up from her nap this a.m and I was just putting her clothes away and here she is smiling at me standing on her knees holding on to the side of the crib when I turned around to face her!! time to drop the crib!

try not to worry about it. my son hit his head a lot when he was learning to crawl, once they learn enough they stop hurting themselves so much (and then when the get on to a new goal the bruises and bloody mouths start all over again!). and the more he practices pulling himself up the stronger his legs will get and the steadier and more balanced he will become. for my son, it's been over three months since he started pulling himself up and he's STILL not walking alone!! So for some it can be a long process, but for others, like a friend mine her son crawled for 1 day at 7months decided the next that he would walk unassisted. Crazy!!

I have the same problem with my daughter. She can move all over with out crawling, but I wish she would just crawl instead of scooting with her legs and arms lol its frustrating but they will get it eventually!

well my daughters both did everything way ahead of the time they should of...It amazed me..Well #3 (my son) comes along and is sooo different! He's 8months old now and he doesnt crawl and just got his first tooth. He can sit pretty well on his own but falls over at times..(top heavy lol) He's a bigger baby so i figure it's harder for him. My friend had her daughter a month before my son and her daughter is walking and running around at 9months old!!! i cant believe the difference..All babies learn and do things at their own pace really. In the end they all get caught up! Just let him explore and learn as he goes..Just watch for anything sharp that he could get hurt on.

Hey!
My daughter would be similar age. She started the army crawling the beginning of May (6 mos 3 weeks old) and just began crawling on all 4s at the beginning of June (8 months) Within 6 days she was pulling herself onto her knees, and 2 days after that, onto her feet! I thoguht it was fast too, but after talking to some other mom freinds they say this happenes a lot.

Also, she falls a lot too. I try to stick by her so that I can catch her most times. We have an area rug in our livingroom where she does most of her standing. But still, it hurts to hit your head on that. But like others said, it is the way they learn, they need to learn to fall as much as they need to learn to stand.
And he;s wobbly because he's only just getting enough muscle strength to do waht he's doing. In a few weeks I'm sure we;ll see less wobbling, more stability.

My son is doing the exact same thing!
I think it is good that he is trying to pull himself up, but at the same time, he inevitably falls and we have hard wood floors, so he cries (though he never has any bumps or anything). We started holding his hands and walking with him to help strength his legs and give him balance. Best advice I can give is to continue to keep a close eye on him, so that he doesn't get hurt.

hi jessica, my eldest dughter lily was really quick with crawling and walking, within a 2 mth span was doing both. wheras chelsea who is 8mth has only just started rolling the lazy little buggar. but they all do their thing in their own time, every baby different, which im discovering myself, it strange having one being so quick and now one slower. as for him hurting himself, they are alot tougher than you think. they got a lot more bumpin to do in the future. his legs may seem like they buckling cos he just finding his legs and wat they can do, balance is the trick and takes a bit. hope this helps penny
