My son is 21 months and has a bottle of milk in the morning when he gets up and one going to bed at night. he drinks water from his bottle during the day. Im hoping to get rid of the bottles asap but any ive tried him with hes scared off. I like someones suggestion of putting somthing he dosnt like in the bottle nd what he does like in the cup which i hope to try. From reading your conversations it has me a little confused as to when im supposed to stop milk altogether?

My daughter hasnt had a bottle since 12 months. I just put it away and started giving her a beaker no problem..also..she can use a cup now, although she does spill it a lot but at 20 months i think she is doing well. Children always want to grow up and be like mummy..so show her you drinking out of the beaker if you have any problems. milk before bed isnt a problem, i always brush her teeth just befoe bed. And she is yet to wake and ask for a drink yet. Good luck. Get off that bottle! :)

The bottle is the problem, not the milk. There's no reason to ever take the milk before bed thing away, unless they're having a hard time with wetting the bed at night after they've been potty training. I'm 23 years old and I still drink a glass of milk before bed, and my 20mo old daughter will get milk before bed until she doesn't want it anymore.
As for the bottle thing, have you tried cups with lids and straws? My daughter has never had a bottle, so I never had to get her off of one since she breastfed and used a sippy cup right away. But she LOVES straws, and walmart has some really good cheap cups with lids and hard plastic straws. I'd try getting something like that and drink out of it yourself in front of him, then offer him to have some. He might find that he likes it.
Good luck!

We have a "no milk after teeth are brushed" rule in our house, so our son typically has his last sippy of milk with supper, then his teeth are brushed sometime thereafter, and he can only have water until bedtime. If he wakes up in the night and is thirsty, he only gets water. It can get problematic if milk residue is allowed to stay on their teeth through the night....good luck!

I don't think there is anything wrong with a drink of milk before bed, and I don't think there is an age when babies are supposed to stop drinking milk but they should drink just from a cup as a opposed to a bottle.

My daughter usues a cup...hasn't had a bottle since 14 months. I threw them all out.

She also drinks soy milk from a carton using a straw as well.

I don't know if there is a bench mark. My daughter hasn't had milk for bedtime since I can't remember when. She has never had a bottle. I breastfed till 12.5 months & the last feed to go was the morning one. I just started giving her milk with all her meals in a sippy cup. My friends son is 4 & he still has a cup of milk at bed time, I don't think that's a problem at all, whatever helps them into sleep mode. I wouldn't worry about when to stop milk, that can go on for a few years yet. I'd just try & transition from the bottle to a sippy cup then a proper cup over time. The night time milk in a bottle might be the last bottle feed to go and just work on using a sippy cup or go straight to normal cup if you like for drinks with meals. We let our daughter drink from our cup whenever she asks. When she was little little & if I had a sports bottle of water & she asked I'd let her drink from it. This made it easier to transition to different cups when the time came. If she thinks she is being big like us she loves it.

My little'n is the same age as yours and i haven't even thought about taking the milk away, but then he only has one at night before bed. I also know a couple of mums with a 2year old 3 and 5year old and they still have milk before bed the 3 and 5year old's dont have their milk in a bottle anymore though.

I wouldn't worry about it yet. Milk is a calming thing it helps them go to sleep and it's kind of like a routine thing now as well.

Try and just get your little'n off the morning milk and just have break fast.
