We have bought our lil girl her first bike suitable for 10 month olds to 3 year olds - it converts... we were struggling to figure out what to buy her as she was given so many nice things since she was born - including bracelets etc.

I'm also in the process of making three scrapbooking frames for her - which will include the day she was born - a collection of daddy's girl photos and one of her smiles and silly faces - which we will then hang in her room and she will hopefully always have :)

We also have a lil bday tradition where she will get a peter rabbit figurine for every birthday until she is 10.... :) we bought them not long after she was born :)

I'll probably go and get her the foam alphabet mat to go in our activity room for her to play on as well :)

I'm hoping others will buy her tactile books... love the 'that's not my' range

Her main gift is probably going to be one of the little ride on cars. We'll probably get her some of the big lego blocks too. I'm not sure what else we are going to get her.

Think about what toys and activities are going to help your child learn a new skill. For this age group, working on balance and coordination (toys to walk around, little tykes cars to use mobility of feet), and think of fine motor coordination (toys that use two hands like pop beads or hammer toys). I find the best toys to be ones that don't use batteries since battery toys often do the work to entertain your child, and the goal is for her to be able to entertain herself. Musical instruments like bongos or xylephones are good for both communication development as well as fine motor. If you get a xylephone with a string on one end, then she can practice pulling it behind her as she starts to walk. Cognitively, she should be beginning to put things into containers, so getting her a truck or a little people car and some people to put in to drive around would be good. She should begin to show early pretend play (i.e. people driving a car, rocking a baby doll).

So in short, here is a bullet list of the ideas above:
- play station table
- little tyke car
- pop beads
- hammer board/table
- bongos
- xylephone
- little people car with people
- baby doll

good luck!!

Wow, hadn't really thought about it. Wouldn't mind getting her something to encourage walking - she can walk behind and push which will help her balance. We are big into educational toys also - but we don't really buy her much. She has inherited a lot (both clothes and toys) from her cousins - we are pretty lucky that way! :0)

We decided to get our son a small swing set for his birthday. He has such a blast with the swings and slides at the "big kid" playground that we thought a small one for at home would be good. Plus, we figured he could use it for a couple of years to come.

I am a Navy wife. My parents and sister are coming down for his birhtday. My husband will miss his birthday because of a three week training. We are having a small party with our friends before he leaves for his training. We are having the same issue about what to get our son. I think we are going to get him something like a waagon to push him in or something. Then, we plan to get some educational gifts. He like baby einstein movies and cds so we might get another one. I really like the baby einstein toys too.

im a marine wife, so we live really far away from our family... so i cant really depend on getting as much stuff as we probably would if we lived closer cuz they have to ship it here. we have a lot of friends though so we are having a big birthday party. the way i see it is they wont remember but they will see all the pictures and know what a great party it was.

I don't plan on getting them any "thing". I figure the grandparents will get them toys and the like. They won't remember it anyway. We are thinking of taking them somewhere cool like the zoo or aquarium.
