did anybody else start cereal yet?

Danielle,

I haven't start any solids yet (Meredith was also born Oct 22) but at her 4 month check up the doc said start with green veggies first then yellow.  Only trying one new veggie per week. She said that I could start the veggies about 2 weeks after starting the rice cereal.

Are you supposed to mix in the veggies or have them separately?

My daughter Anabelle was 4 months old on the 22nd of February!!  I started her on Rice cereal on the 19th of February.  She loves it!!  She isn't a big fan of it when it's runny, but when I started to thicken it up a little bit, she took to it well!! 

I am not sure when I am supposed to switch and add some other food to it!?  Wait until she's older?!  I did hear that you should start with vegetables before fruit so they get used to the not so sweet stuff first. . . then start encorporating sweeter veggies and fruits!

Yes, i started my son Brandon, who was born october 24th . I started to feed Brandon rice cereal at 3 months old.. I give him a small portion in the morning with a 6 oz bottle and  a jar of bananas he eat the whole thing....  And i also give him cereal at night with a 6 oz bottle. My doctor told me it would help him sleep during the night but it is not happening....

Is anyone else having that problem?

my son eats 3 tbs. rice cereal at dinner, and about one tbs. at breakfast with a container of fruit!! He loves it!!

I started mine on cereal and all baby foods, and he did great. My son was 3 weeks early, born Oct. 7th weighing 7 lbs 6 oz and now weighs 16 lbs!!! He still breast feeds & drinks formula, on top of the baby food and cereal.

we started at 2 months as lily has reflux.. she's always taken it off the spoon and first i just make it really soupy... she eats about 30 mintues after nursing twice a day

Hi there :) I wanted to do cereal too. My pediatrician said to stick to breast milk/formula for first 6 months. Then work in cereal slowly while mixing it with formula/or breastmilk not water because it has no nutritional value.

i started my baby on solis the day she turned 4months old i started her on baby breakfast then started giveinh her a variaty of different baby foods she has been on solids for 3 weeks now and has between 1 and 2 solid meals a day and she is loveing it she will have her banana baby breakfast at arround 9 or 10 in a morning then she will have a baby dinner at about 1 or 2 in the afternoon as well as her usuall milk feeds

My little guy is a week away from being 5 months old. I just started him on rice cereal sat, so for 4 mornings now. As per the box I do 1 tbsp of cereal then I mix in 3 tbsp of formula, nice and runny. I have decided to slowly introduce it to him and he isn't doing to bad, just trying to get used to it. I also give him a 4-5oz bottle as well. He hasn't yet finished the amount of cereal I have prepared as of yet and that is ok, just taking his time! After I will introduce oatmeal and then barley cereal.

Just make sure when you mix the rice with formula the first time that you make it pretty thin.  Much thinner than you or I would eat it.  Pretty much make it just thick enough to coat a baby spoon. 

Also, I feed my son rice cereal 2x a day with a little bit of stage 1 fruit mixed in.  He loves it!  He only eats about 2 oz. of cereal and then another 3-4 oz. of straight formula after that.

My doctor told me it was okay to start cereal and if she was okay with it then I could move on to vegetables and she absolutely loves to eat now. Since she is breast-fed only, i've been mixing her cereal with breast milk. I give her a little milk while I pump some from the other breast then I mix it in with her food. So far she sucks it right down. She started opening her mouth for the food. She makes noise when i'm not giving it to her fast enough and even licks her lips lol.

Current recommendations are to not give your child anything but breastmilk (or formula) until at least 6 months of age.

* he continues to be hungry despite more frequent nursing which is unrelated to illness or teething

The way you are doing it sounds good!  You can also make the cereal super runny until they get used to it, and you are sure it doesn't bother them.  A good way to start is a Tbsp. of cereal and like 2-4 ozs formula or breast milk.  We'll be starting this kiddo (#2) on oatmeal instead of rice cereal since rice can cause constipation.  It definitely bothered her big sister, so we aren't going to chance it!    Gerber makes single grain cereals with DHA in them now, and I would also recommend using those to help those little brains grow! :)

My daughter (now 22 months) i started her about the same time too.. and my doctor said too.. So im sure your daughter will be ok

I just started mine at four months.  He had been satified with just formula and sleeping all night.  He started waking up in the night hungry and is going through a lot of formula during the day so it was time.  I think he is about to go through a major growth spurt with the amount he has been eating.

I haven't started yet.  I'm exclusively breast feeding and my son is growing like crazy and sleeping pretty well so I'm not in a big rush.

4 months on this past 5th and taking about 40 oz a day - have started cereal and already taking 2 table spoons. i also do a bite of cereal or two then some milk.

my daughter will be 4 months on sunday i started her at 3 moths and she was fine, she now has a baby breakfast about 8am a dinner and pudding at 12pm and bottles in between she id doing great and sleeps all night x

Yes I started my daughter, who was born October 14, at 3 1/2 mon. She eats a realatively small portion of rice cereal and about 4-5oz with that, but she only gets the cereal at night right now. My doctor said to start that way for a couple of weeks, then twice a day for a couple of weeks then to three times a day after that. other wise she drinks 5oz ever 3 hrs. She was 8lbs 7oz when she was born.
