My 16 month old is getting molars, but still only has 6 teeth in front. It seems kind of early to me, but is this happening with anyone else's babies?

My kiddo had all of her teeth (except her canines which she just got last month) since she was 17 months old.. some children just get them in sooner than others, same way some walk sooner than others.

This is a very old post but there is a typical timing for teeth and molars come in around a year. My daughter (like me) teethed early and had 8 teeth at 10 mo. when the first molar began pushing through. The molars typical come before the eye teeth and so there is space left between the front incisors and molars until those come in which is usually right after molars. Of course all babies are different. But typically those who get 1st teeth a little later close to a year get them all at once. 16 months is very normal for 1st molars to come in. By 18 mo. my daughter had 16 teeth.

My son Levi has one molar on each side, and he cut these teeth around 13 months. Now that he is 17 months he has started to sprout almost all of the other teeth at once, which the pediatrician said is normal for children who don't cut their first tooth until around 9 months or so.

So glad to hear that others are going through the same thing, its been 14 years since I've had a baby and did not remember their teeth coming in like this!! I cannot believe how many teeth Lauren is cutting at once especially since it took SO long for her to get her 1st tooth (poor baby!! - she's miserable, & so is Mommy)

Hi Claire:

My daughter does. After she received the 2 on top and the 2 on bottom she cut her molars on the top. She is the only one of my kids who is doing things "out of order" as far as cutting teeth. She just cut the other 2 front on the bottom and is now possibly working on the other 2 up top. Her mouth is full of white ridges though, would just with they would all pop through.

My daughter had only 6 teeth in front until she was about 14 months old and then in one week she got 3 molars and one more bottom front tooth. The next week, the next molar came in and the week after that she got her 4th bottom front tooth.

HI. My daughter Selena is going through the same thing. She has always been a happy little baby but lately she just cries alot ! Her gums are so swollen from the molars. She also has her front top and bottom teeth. She's had a pretty miserable cold on top of this for the past 3 weeks. Poor thing. I don't remember going through this much with my 6 and 4 year olds. Good luck!

Well everyone, in the last two months since this conversation started, our little guy still has 4 top front teeth, two front bottom teeth, two top molars and one bottom molar. I stuck my finger in this morning to put on some orajel and discovered 5 more molars just coming through! No wonder he's been in such a bad mood this week!

I've enjoyed all of your stories and hope we all get through it bite-free :)

my son, who is 17 months yesterday, has all his teeth already! I do have a friend who has a girl who is just over 12 mos and has 4 front teeth and is cutting molars. all babies are different, so no worries! perhaps your baby mushes a lot of food in the back and has stimulated them to come up early.

yes my son was only 14 months when he got his molars, he only has 6 in the front as well and he is just now getting his eye teeth. the doctor says it is totally normal because different kids teeth come in at different points in time. some babys can even be born with teeth.

yes my daughter just started getting her first set of molars a few weeks ago, shortly after she turned 17 months. she has her top 4 teeth, and only two on the bottom front. she even has a set of molars coming in on the right side of her upper mouth. i wouldn't say it's too early, just be glad your baby is getting teeth! i know some two years olds who are barely cutting teeth! :)

My 17mth old got five teeth at one time and also got all four molars at once. Its weird because the dentist said that normally they dont' get their molars until they are two or older, but it is become more common

I dont think it is unusual for your 16 month to be getting them.
