Hi

I have noticed that my little 3 month old girl has a flat spot on the side of her had as she favours it more then the other side and i suspect she has before she was born as she also has a squashed ear on that side also. I have tried towels rolled up under her head to stop her from laying on that side, head wedges, moving her head when she sleeps but nothing works she normally wiggles away from them.

Does anyone have any suggestions will the flat spot correct itself with time and age?

thanks

Mel :)

My son also has a flat spot on his head, and our doctor said as he gets older and starts to roll around more, it will even out, but I made an appointment at the head clinic for him for a consultation anyways.

Hi my daughter favours right side and has v flat head at this side and also squashed ear! I looked it up on net and found  the' goi goi baby pillow' which is specially designed. Pillows are not recommended in uk (SIDS) but are actually statutory in Sweden and other countries where v few babies get flat heads and they also have very low SIDS rate??? I have purchased one just over one week ago and can already see a marked improvement. I do use mine at night (under all cot sheets) but you could use it in day if not sure about the night! I also use a Bumbo chair which alse helps keep pressure off head. As for her ear that will have to be pinned back when she is a bit older but not too worried asv my older bro did this when he was baby and you would never know!

My sons flat spot was very bad because he had a HUGE head. He is 2 years 8 months old and till this day his head is a little crooked. I feel bad cause I never really looked at the back of his head before it got bad. When you are taking care of your baby you normally have them facing you. I got most of it gone with alot of work. My point is dont let it get too bad. You should still try putting her on her side in a swing or something for nap times. I keep a close eye on my daughters head, I learned my lesson with my son. Also, have you made sure that she doesnt have one side of her neck stronger than the other? One sign is when one cheek is a little flatter than the other or if you hold her straight up and tip her to each side like 30 degrees and see if she holds her head at the same angle both ways. If she does have that problem then she will have to see a physical therapist.

I was just reading about this in a Dr. Sears book.  He says that it doesn't hurt anything and it will go away.  If it bothers you try other sleep positions.

Thank you for that - i was given a sleep positioner but did not realize you can put them on their side with it so i will try that from tonight.
