Soup, soup, soup. Mushy patsa, mushy veggies and beans with some shredded chicken or little meatballs are great in chicken, beef or vegetable stock. My twins love brocolli potato cheese soup. Soups are great to start them on. Everything gets real mushy and easy to chew the longer it simmers in the broth.

Also, my kids are more apt to eat something if I let them hold the fork. I put a piece of banana on the fork and hand it to them and then cheer when they eat it up.

my son was the same way, no matter how often we tried to get him to "practice" chewing he would gag! we have been successful with steamed vegetables/beans and fruit, meatloaf or meatballs, cottage cheese, yogurt, avacado and banana, and breakfast cereals. he has been eating these things since he had only 2 bottom teeth, now he has 4 on top and shreds his food like a wolf, hilarious! good luck

his teeth have nothing to do with him chewing... babies mash their food with the back gums

My daughter JUST has one tooth popping through- no more. She's had things like chicken drumsticks, whole peeled apples, cucumber slices, cheese, casseroles, shrimp, chunks of steak, you name it since about ten months. She's got no problem biting off chunks of apple with only her gums.

You've just got to put them in front of your son and let him practice. He'll get it pretty quickly.
