I was advised to never put it in the bottle...  I spoon feed her at dinner time... I make the cereal runny so it's the consistency that can be put in a bottle I suppose, but at least this way I can thicken it as she learns to use the spoon.  She eats dinner with the rest of the family.  It helps to establish the meal time...  So that's about 6:30, and then she starts her bedtime routine at around 7:45, and that takes me about 45 mins so she's in bed by 8:30 (I know I said 8, but I rounded down), then she's out until 4:30.  WHen she gets up at that time, it's more of just a snack, not a meal, and then she's back down until 8:30...  Her bedtime routine helps her too to know that sleep-time is coming.  I give her a 15 minute bath, get her dressed for bed (she has really bad eczema so it takes about 10-15 mins for dressing), and then she nurses for 15... then she's in her crib with lights out.  I also have her sleep on her belly because she's rolling, so she ends up that way on her own anyway... I hope I've helped a little...

I have heard two different stories about cereal. One is to only feed it to him in a bowl so that he learns eating skills, and putting it in a bottle could be a choking hazard. However, bowl and spoon feeding is hard to do before bed to get him to sleep longer. Some people say to put the cereal in a bottle. I have just been starting with one meal a day with cereal in a bowl. One time when I did put it in the bottle (it was still thin enough to pass through a level 2 nipple) he threw it all up a few minutes after he finished, so I am a little nervous to put it back into the bottle before bed.

Quoting Amanda:

Am I the only one whose baby still gets up every three hours?

My daughter was getting up 3 times a night until I started her on cereal 2 weeks ago... She still gets up once, but she goes a full 8 hours before waking up, and goes back down easily afterwards and will sleep another 4... It did take her a few nights though, she went down to 2 then to 1...

Quoting Carolynne:

My son Barrett, is 4 1/2 months old. He had his check-up last week, and seems about on track with your daughter. He weighs a little more, and a 1/2 inch longer, and sleeps from 8pm to 7am with no feedings :-)
I have a question though... at his check-up the Dr. seemed a little concerned that he is not wanting to roll over... or sit up. I have to work with him on his tummy time... did you do anything to help your daughter with this?

My daughter was rolling over really early because of how much tummy time she got.  She refused to do it on the floor so I would sit up in bed with her tummy to mine and gave her tummy time that way.  She started to get brave and would roll off my belly into my arms, and from there we moved down to the floor.  To help with the sitting up, you could invest in a bumbo.

Ava will be 4 months 2morrow.  She weighed 6lbs 9oz at birth, and as of last Monday was 13lbs 8oz.  She started rice cereal 2 weeks ago (against doc's orders) and hasn't had any problems with it yet...she sleeps from 8-4, eats, back to sleep till 8.  And naps regularly too.  Before I started the cereal she was exclusively breastfed and up pretty much evry 1-2 hrs overnight to eat.  She's going through a little phase right now where she wants to use mommy as a pacifier, but wont take a real paci... hopefully that will pass soon.  She's been rolling both ways since just a week before she turned 3 months, and is a supported sitter.  Happy 4 months everyone!

Happy birthday!!! Leah was 14 lbs 3oz today. Still no solid food, she is exclusively breasfed. She sleeps from 10 pm until 6 am, then eats and goes back to sleep. She was a preemie (6lbs 5oz at birth)and still not a very big baby. Has definitely started drooling a lot lately... She likes her toys and tummy time, sits up supported and has rolled over a couple of times.

she is adorable mama!
