How many naps are your babies taking?

My daughter started to cut out her third nap around 8 months, sometimes she would take it, sometimes she wouldn't. Now she has settled into napping for 1 hour 20 mins. in the morning, and after being awake for 4 hours after her first nap, she naps anywhere from 1 hour 30 mins. to 2 hours, and 11 hours at night. I heard once they go down to one nap a day, they also nap for about 2-3 hours, but it usually happens when they reach the year mark. I guess when my daughter's first nap gets shorter, it will be time to slowly switch to one nap a day, but we're not there yet. It seems like your twins are fine, but expect them to be fussy and tired while they are making the change, at least that's how my daughter was.

My little guy sleeps 11 hours a night, and has since he was about 4 months old. He gets up for food, but always needs a morning nap for about 1 1/2 hours. He used to take two more naps during the day for about 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours a piece, but lately has been skipping his last nap of the day. So he is just at 3 hours of nap time.
As far as keeping babies entertained in their cribs... I give him all the toys I give him when he plays on the floor. Normally, if he is not sleepy yet, he will play for a while, then drift off without being too fussy.

My baby sleeps about 12 hours a night, naps usually twice totaling 3-4 hours. I think it definitely depends on the kid. I've learned to not stress too much and go with what the baby wants and what works for us.

my child takes two naps a day..sometimes they only total an hour sometimes they total 6 hours! it depends if shes going through a growth spurt or teething, etc! id say if they seem rested enough, when they wake up in the morning, then youre fine! if they dont seem rested enough, look at what you might be doing during the day! is their feeding schedule off? are you inconsistant with your schedule? etc... if you find nothing on your part, see a doctor! good luck to you!

My daugther Victoria was typically taking a 2 hour nap from 11am to 1pm and then a late 1-2 hour nap (3pm-5pm) and then off to bed around 8pm. She would then sleep through the night for 2 hours. She is a little over 9 months old now. About one week ago I started to try one nap a day. But this means keeping her up until noon from the time she wakes up. She will then sleep until from noon to about 3pm. And then I keep her up until bedtime, which we start to unwind around 7pm. I am not successful every day but we are trying.

My 9 month old has one morning nap and one afternoon nap. 3- 31/2 hours in total.

With the arvo nap, I wake her up around 4.30pm.



She sleeps for around 10 hours at night.

bubs 8 1/2 months...he doesn't really sleep during the day unless daddy drops something and wakes him up early. on the rare occasion that he needs to sleep during the day it will be 10-20 minutes and then he'll be right and full of energy again. (without teething) he sleeps 10-12 hours at night and has from 2 weeks and has never been a big day sleeper anyway....i think it's in our genes.

My little one is to nosey he never wants to nap and everytime we put him down for a nap he wines for a little i guess he just doesnt want to miss something exciting lol but when he does nap he naps for like 2 hours maybe 3 i know when he naps longer it makes my hubby happy because he works nights and watches the kids while im working. The price you pay for having kids gotta love it

At 8 months your babies should be having no more than 3 hrs sleep, and 2 naps a day should be sufficient. My 8 month old has 30 mins in the morning at then goes down at 12:30 for 2 and a half hours.Sometimes if she sleeps in to 8 am she'll go down at 12 for a 3 hour sleep.Im very suprised that the 3 year is still sleeping at night if shes having 3 hours sleep at her age by 3 most children are not even having a day sleep and if they are shouldnt be having anymore than half an hour or an hour max. Also make sure your daughter has 4 hours of awake time before bed if you wont her to go down easily.Hope this helps. Any more questions just ask

My daughter is not a big day time sleeper. She takes 2-3 naps a day for 30mins-1hr. She usually gets about 2 hours total nap time in a day. She sleeps atleast 11-12hours at night (sometimes more), so I don't worry about it.

I've found she naps better for my mom and the babysitter (during the week when i'm at work) than for me (on the weekends when i'm at home). has anyone else had that happen?

My daughter is having 3 naps. 1hr or so in the morning & 1 x 30 min nap around midday & 1 x 30min nap around 4.30pm. The morning nap use to be for about 2 hours until about 3 weeks ago, then suddenly was about 30min-1hr & this week back up from 1-2 hrs. She sleeps 12 hours overnight.

Ha! Mine just did the same thing!

She turned 9 months on the 6th, and about a week ago she was taking 2 good naps - each for 1-2 hours. So she'd sleep a good 3-4 hours during the day.

All of a sudden she takes either one good nap (about 2 hours) or 2 small naps (each about 45 mins)

Weird!

My doc (who I just visited yesterday) says this is totally normal, and most babies go threw it right around 9 months.

My little one takes two naps... one morning, one afternoon. His schedule is still not too regular, but usually the first is around 9am, the second around 3pm.

I also have twins (born oct 10 2008) and they sleep about the same as yours. Usually 1-2 naps equaling about 3 hours which is just about the same as my other daughter (shes 1yr 8mon). And they get about 10 hours at night.

My daughter takes 2 naps during the day usually there both around an hour and a half totally 3 hours. Sometimes she takes a 2 hour nap in the afternoon. She sleeps 10-11 hours at night. I put her down for her nap at the same time every day and turn on her music. She has a mobile and a little music player next to her bed that stays on for 15 minutes. If i miss the window her for her afternoon nap though she only takes a short nap. I don't think she's taken a 3rd nap since like 5 months. I cut it out so she would go to bed earlier since i was having to wake her up every morning. I wanted her to get as much sleep as she needed at night and not have to wake her up in the morning.

Hmm. Do you have any in-crib toys that they can play with? We have a small music player with lights that is attached to the crib for my son to hit and turn on. It is sucurely attached to the crib to there is no choking or suffacation hazard. Also, now that he is crawling around and pulling up, just letting him cruise around the living room does wonders for tiring him out! If they are fussy/whiny, you are probably right; they are tired. When my daughter was little, she would fight going to sleep like crazy. We ended up having to just let her cry it out until she wore herself out and fell asleep. Unfortunately, Aaron has this small window where he can nap. If he falls alseep later, he's up till ten or eleven at night.

My daughter will be 9 months on the 14th and she sleeps for 1 hour in the morning and about 2 hours in the afternoon. Everything I've read indicates they should sleep 2 to 3 hours in nap time during the day. Your twins seem to nap just fine! xox

I think it all really depends on how much tey are sleeping at night and how much they are moving around. My son was taking one or two naps a day totaling about two hours (same as my three year old, btw). Now, I'm lucky if he takes any nap. However, he is sleeping for about 12 hours at night. He's happy and active, so I'm not worried about the napping (although I do miss that time when both of the kids were asleep!) What I have been doing on the days when he refuses to nap is sort of forcing him to rest by putting him in his crib with the lights off and some calming music on for about an hour. Some days he cries a lot, but most he either plays quietly or falls alseep. I think it's important for him to get into the habit of relaxing in the afternoon because not only does he need it, but I need it as well! Good luck!
