Introducing Meats

my son started cereal at 5 months then some veggies at 5 1/2 months then fruits after that he's been having meats since 6 1/2 months (he prefers beef to ckn or tky) and haven't tried fish as our ped said to hold off on fish until at least 1 yr. He also said he could have soy or tofu if I wanted haven't tried yet as he is ok with what we have. I have still been pureeing it and have just started leaving fruits and veggies a little chunky so probably in the next couple weeks no more puree (YEA!)

We stick mainly to fruits, veggies, and grains but we did introduce meat to our daughter around 7 months. Now, she's had lamb, turkey, and chicken. (lamb and turkey are supposed to be the easiest to digest). She usually gets meat 2-3 times a week. Lately, we've just bought ground meat (turkey), sauteed it and she's been able to eat it like that, no need to puree.

We started my daughter on meats when she turned 7 months old. She does not like them nor does she like chicken. I mix them with peas or carrots because she loves those but she can still manage to spit out the meat and eat the veggies. I have heard it's the texture they don't like - even though I've made them pureed like soup, she's still not crazy about them. If I can get her to eat 1/2 of a soup spoon, I'm lucky!! xox

My son likes fish and chicken in particular, but he's also eaten small amounts of beef and duck. They don't seem to trigger anything in him and he enjoys the meals that have meat in them.

Our pediatrician said to wait at least until 8 months and once he has adjusted to other solid foods. My 7 month old still has some constipation issues with certain veggies and grains, so I will probably wait until 9 months, or just see how it goes. I'm vegetarian and have been my whole life (parents' choice, not mine), so I'm a little nervous about how it will go. I just know that I definately want him to learn to eat meat, so he develops the digestive abilities I don't have.

I introduced meat at 6 months as advised by a ped dietician. It's definitely not her favourite food, but I mix it 1 part meat to 4 parts veges & she eats it fine. Once they start solids their iron intake needs to be very good, so I make sure she has the iron fortified cereal as well as meat each day.

I also introduced my son to meats just over 6 months. I wasn't sure either but asked the doctor and he said since he was already doing very well with the veggies/fruits (which I started at 5 months 1 week) then he is ready for meats. Also there are no allergies in my family or my husbands as I think that makes the difference in when to introduce certain foods.

I have no plans to introduce my daughter to meats for medical reasons. I have a severe issue with meat protein that puts me in the hospital even if I have soup with beef/chicken broth in it. It's genetic with a 50% chance she has it too. And with no way to test for it (unless she has a severe reaction and crashes), I have no desire to risk it. Besides, as of 8 months I can introduce her to the same soy products I eat (this has been ok'd by the doctor, AND if you check the 6 months veggies, they have lentils in them anyway).

I have had my little guy on meats since 6 months, It was actually one of the first types of food we introduced, as per my doctor. It's not his favourite type of food, but of all meats, he seems to prefer lamb, which I only picked up by mistake and thought he would hate!

hello,my son is 7 months old and i have tried him on the meats and he doesnt like it and with his eczema it seems to flair up on his face from the meat...so i am gonna hold off a bit until a few weeks and try again...

I give my daughter stage 2 meats, such as; chicken with rice, turkey, beef, etc. I started her on that at 6.5 months. By next month I'll have her on stage 3 foods.

I was told by our pediatrician to wait until 1 year. New research has found that babies introduced to meats too early often develop a protein allergy that may be linked to pnut allergies (because of the protein). Anyway, I don't know the details, I just know we were told to hold off because as long as your baby is on formula then they'll get enough iron from that.

Hi i have been giving my baby meat for a couple of weeks now i also blend the meat like crystal does and she seems to be really enojoying the extra taste that it gives i have also just started to give her fish which she loves .she will be 8 months on 6th june .

Hi My twins eat meat now. I think I just started with the baby tin food that had meat in it, I gave them a big chunk of meat to suck on (supervised) too. I just wasn't sure I could process the meat finely enough! But eventually just got out the stick blender (think its called a bar mixer too) into some roast & it worked well - then just mixed it through their veges for dinner. My girls can handle pretty chunky food now so will probably try just chopping it soon - just thought they could better digest it in blender size pieces - at least until these teeth appear!
