DS will be 6 months next week and he just started sitting on his own yesterday. I practiced with him a lot by holding him steady and have never used a bumbo.

My son is just short of 6 months right now and has been sitting up since he was about 5 months, he is also almost crawling now too. He is progressing very fast though, he rolled over before he was 3 months and has been trying to crawl for about two months now. Your baby will come around soon, just work with them and keep helping them!

My baby boy is 6 1/2 and not sitting up either. My Mama thinks it cause he's so chubby! He already weighs 17 lbs. The dr told me 2 months ago that I needed to cut back his milk and start baby food. SO i did and he gained a pound! I was gonna buy a chair to help him sit up but why spend the money for something that will only be used for a lil time. SO my Mama suggested just using pilllows around him. I usually will set him up between my legs while Im watching tv in the evening. He has started to be able to sit up for a minute on his own. SO all I can say is just keep working with him and he'll strengthen his muscles and be able to do it soon!

My 6 month old just started sitting up on her own like a week ago. I would place her on her butt an hold her to make her know that she can do this then I would take my hands away and have to catch her when she started to fall over. I started doing this when she was like 3 months old and it helped when I placed the boppy pillow around her for additional support. Babies learn at different times, I wouldn't be too worried about it. Your baby may even be the first one to walk or crawl.

My little guy started sitting up at 5.5 months also, and he amazes me because he just sat up one day and I expected him to slowly fall over as my other two boys did, but he can actually sit for about an hour at a time before he gets too tired. He reaches down to pick up toys and then sits back up now too. A lot happens sooo quickly. Today he got up on his hands and knees and started rocking and it made him laugh I guess that was fun because he kept doing it. OHHH They grow too fast.... :(

Emma just started being able to sit up last week. She started to sit up while holding on to something when she was playing with a toy. Now she can sit up for a little while without holding on to anything.

i think mine is lazy to haha Sophie's 6 months and can sit in the corner of a chair but can't sit up unasisted, my mom says its because shes 20 pounds hahah do you think fatter babies have a harder time doing these things????

Lily's over 18 pounds and doing everything early so i dont think size has much to do with it

It is so true that every baby is different. My son can roll over, but just does not care to do it... but when it comes to sitting up, he picked it up right away (around 5.5 months). I think he prefers to sit up so that he can see everything better. He can sit unaided for a little while, but he still uses his hands to help support... but he is down to only using one hand, because he likes to play with a rattle with the other hand.

At first I thought he was lazy since he did not roll over... but since he was getting his tummy time, he was still developing the muscles, and just went to sitting up. I have also heard that bigger babies are a little slower because they have more weight to handle.

Vivi just sat for the first time on April 18. Then she did again the other day. She doesn't like to sit up without feeling me behind her, so I have to distract her with a toy in front of her. Otherwise she won't do it. I guess they do it when they are ready, so don't worry. Vivi also rolled over about a month ago, but only does it from time to time. She is content just gazing at the mat or at her toys. Our doc did say that sometimes bigger babies do things a little later. I'm not in a rush for her to grow up. I know the nagging feeling about the developmental charts though. Give yourself some cushion with those. Happiness is the best thing we can hope for with our children.

its ok all babies do their own things in their own time. i also have a very chubby heavy baby 19 pounds/9 kgs and shes very active she loves to jump in her jolly jumper but resently she loves to move around the floor. but i also know of a baby that is 2 months older but hasnt progressed as much as lilian but she will get their. to help my baby i put her into a oval clothes basket and talk and play with her.

ofcourse wieght plays a major role in babies activeties, and i do really believe that it would delay her as far as setting up on her own coz she has to squosh that chubby stomech of hers.. lol (god bless her). celine(my little baby) sits still in the corner when i place her on a sofa or bed... she is 16 pounds now..hopefully she will figure it out before she starts crawling.lol

My son is just now starting to sit un-supported but only for a few seconds. I prop him up with a boppy pillow behind him or we have one of the Bumbo seats which has helped a lot as well. Every baby grows at their own pace. Enjoy her while she's still little and likes to be lazy! =)

my 6 month old does for a few seconds but then wobbles over - just encourage them to sit up with support and they soon learn to do it.

My 6 month old can sit up unaided for a while and is also trying to crawl, but my other two girls didnt sit up until 8 months, they missed out on crawling and started walking at 10 months old. All babies learn when they are ready.

My son is 6 1/2 months old and started to sit up on his own without support just afer he turned 6 months old. I would prop him up in between the nursing pillow and then one day I decided to slowly move it away and from then on he sits up. He will still sometimes fall over but good for the most part. You could try that but babies to vary in age as well. I know lots of babies that could crawl at this age but mine is no where near it. But im sure one day it will all of a sudden change!

Holly has been sitting up unsupported since she was 5.5 m.o.
Your lil' Munchkin will start sitting up when she's ready..just keep encouraging her with putting a U-shaped pillow behind her plus a few cushions..you'll be surprised at how fast they learn. xx

Babies are on their own timetable. No two are the same. My baby girl started sitting up about a week before she turned 6 months, but she still won't roll from back to belly. She's perfectly happy to lie on her back; she won't even try to roll. My thing is just give them opportunities to develop the skills and they'll pick it up. No worries.

Lily's been sitting up for a while now... the chair you are talking about is the probably the bumbo personally it's not something we'd use as i feel iit's would keept he baby from doing it on their own since they have something doing it for them

I have twins and one started sitting up about a week ago and the other one starting sitting up last night on his own. I didn't use a chair I sat behind them and played with toys with them, know i put a boppy pillow behind them to cetch them if they fall. I wouldn't worry, I have one twin that can roll over and the other one doesn't even try. Babies do there own thing.
