My 13 month old is still not walking.

My 14 month old son is also doing this. About a month ago he was taking 10 steps at a time for several days and then he just quit. From what I understand, it's actually good for their development to crawl longer so we're good. Eventually they will walk and we'll probably be missing the calmer days when they didn't. My son started walkin a week before he turned 14mo and I didnt think he was ever going 2.. he was afraid to fall.. I guess one day he just woke up and said Im not going to be scared and hes been walkin since. He loves to walk.. But I put his around of kids his age and he saw them walkin and then he really wanted to..

my daughter walked at ten and a half months my son in 14 and a half and has only just begun to take two indepenant step v causiously! i think it might be because he has a lively four year old sister running about!

When my sister was a baby, she would walk if she had something in her hand. My mom would start out holding her hand and then replace t with something like a toy. And, she would just keep on walking, unaware my mom wasn't helping her. No need to worry. She'll see that walking is way more fun than crawling before you know it and it will be nonstop motion from then on.

hey my daughter is 13 months too, she does the same, guess this is normal. am waiting to see her walk by herself too

My 13 month old is still not walking.

I know every child develops at their own pace, but my llittle girl is afraid to walk by herself. She only walks if someone holds her hand. As soon as you try to let go she sits down. She isn't ready because she has this fear. I think it will be months before she walks by herself!

Lisa, I wouldn't be worried either. When my son was at that stage, we used to hold out our hands to him as if we were goin to pick him up, but the second he leans forward and reaches for it we would step back. Eventually he'll take one or more steps just to reach his destination. Try it, maybe it might for you?

My daughter did the same thing. We thought she'd never walk...she always needed a hand. Then, after she turned 13 months, she got up and started walking. Within two weeks she was running and now she's 14 months and mastering stairs. I started walking at 9 months old, and my cousin started walking at 2 and a half. All kids do things when they want to. She'll get sick of needing your hand everytime she wants to walk. Don't worry or stress yourself about it...but you'll be really excited (and she'll be extra cute) when she finally decides to walk by herself.

My Daughter also had that fear..for a very long time. She started cruising (holding onto furniture, ect.) at 8 months and just started walking at 13.5 months old.



A few days before she started walking, she had this sudden obsession with waking around the house holding onto our hands. So that's what we did...all different times throughout each day. We walked to the kitchen, to the bedrooms, ect. ect. she loved it! Then she just took off 2 weeks later. It's almost like she needed that extra jolt of confidence, ya know?



Do get a push toy to where she can hold onto it and push it around..it gives her a sence of independance but also keeps her balanced. Practice walking with her around the house, holding onto her hand..don't let go until she's ready. My Daughter also hesitated if I let go all of a sudden..she'll do it when she's ready and you don't want to encourage her fear. But keep doing practicing with her. Also, sit on the ground with your legs spread and put her a few feet facing infront of you. Encourage her to walk to you..smile and say "yay!!! come here!". My Daughter loved that and it got her to take 4 to 6 steps at a time by herself.

my son liam is also 13th month and is not walking yet,l think is fear he can only walk when someone holds his hand.l don't knw what to do.l believe in their own time they will walk it wont be long finger crossed!

don't worry, my daughter, Isabelle will be fourteen mths this mth and she is not walking either! she walks around things and she has learned to get dwon by herself. but she still will not walk without holding both hands. I am not worried, I was a late walker too. she will walk when she is ready!!

my son is the same, and my daughters didn't walk until 15mths. they both play rep soccer now (no motor skill issues!) there are definite benefits to having a later walker (they understand "no" better!)...be happy that you have a cautious baby!

my son is 14 months old and was doing the same thing. you have to get something to intice her. i told my son if he walked to me i would give him a lolly and he did it. lol its just things to make the wanna come to u. she will do it when she wants to

my daughter Lily is 14 mo and just started army crawling...she will pull herself up on her knees but that's all the farther she'll go. But man can she roll and scoot. Every child is different. No need to worry. Just enjoy it for now.

Don't worry it's her personality shinning through. My duaghter could stand om her own and step at 10 months but didn't actually start walking on her own until 15 months. I was worried. My 1 son started at 13 months but my 2 son didn't walk alone until 18 months and i was real worried my husband said he'll do it in his own time and theres nothing wrong with him and he was right. Now at 3 yrs old you would never know hw was a late walker.Just dont stress out over it or she will to, this I know from experience.Besides when she does tart doing it on her own you'll soon miss hoilding that hand so enjoy while you can!

Our daughter is 14 months old and still not walking. We're not worried at all - all babies develop at different rates. My sister was 17 months old before she walked. Its all 'normal'. Im just enjoying the fact my daughter isnt into everything yet ;-)

Don't worry, my Christian was the same way he just started walking the other night. I was sitting on the sofa folding laundry and out the side of my eye I saw something like run across the floor and it was him walking fast to my other daughter who was sitting at the kitchen table eating tropical Mike 'n Ikes. He wanted some so he walked to her and has not stopped since. He is 14 months old. We put his video on FB (facebook) so friends and family can share in the joy. It will happen soon, just be patient.

Same thing here! my son just turned 14 months. He is great with walkers and will hold our hands and walk and sometimes I don't even feel him really holding on but he is very careful and doesn't have the full confidence just yet. It must be a little scary for them! I am not worried as it is normal at this age and the other gals are right, between 12-18 months is the norm :)

My dd (born 10/12/08) is still not walking either. She took 3 steps all by herself 1 1/2 weeks ago and hasn't done it since. She too is also a cautious little walker. I sort of think it has a lot to do with their personality. Her little daredevil friends were earlier walkers, but she's a laid back sweet little critter and is fine crawling everywhere so far. Made me feel better to read all these posts though!

I'm a mum of 3. My eldest walked at 12 mths, middle child @ 16 mths, n my 3rd child is 14 mths and showing no interest in walking yet. I'm not worried, she'll do it when she is good and ready. So will your child, there's no age limit, that they should be walking by. x

My son is 13 months old and just started to walk he would stand and first and couldnt get the concept of stepping out and walking forward... so I kept putting him in his walker and then on nov 19th he got up and started walking back and forth from one side to the other without assistance lol so keep up the good work ladies all babies are different and will do it at their own pace!

Lisa I wouldn't worry, my son didn't start walking until he was almost 16 months old. You can't force them but my son use to do the same thing, loved to walk while you held his hands. Now he's 3 and I can't keep up with him

My daughter will be 14 months next week and just today she has started walking on her own. Every child is different - don't dispair! She will walk when she is ready!

My daughter is doing the same exact thing! She is almost 14 months old and still not walking. She is the youngest of four, and this is the longest I've had to wait for one to start walking! The other 3 all walked right around their 1st birthday. I'm trying not to panic because I know she can do it. She just needs to gain confidence in herself before she takes that first step. I bet both of our babies will be running before we know it! Good luck!

My 13 month old b/g twin daughter does the same thing. I think it is a confidence or security issue. She will walk holding our hands and walk along furniture and the wall but refuses to let go. She has been using those little pushing walking aids and I try to really praise her when she uses it. She'll get there. Her brother is a pro at walking and has even started running. I don't want him to leave his sister totally in the dust.

i think people get concerned about this way to early. Please dont stress its between 12-18 months on average for children to walk, and most times kids who dont walk early are more developed in other areas. Keep encouraging her but it will happen in time, i dont know any teens who still crawl :-)

hi, my son is also not walking only on firm things. He does walk behind a chair. I was told it was normal for a kid to start walking between 1 and 2 years of age. So we still have some time before worriing.

normal for walking is up to 15months so no need to worry yet some kids are just more cautious

Don't worry :) she will walk when she feels comfortable with it. Just keep encouraging her and let her do it on her own time. Our son started walking at 10.5 months and I have not sat since LOL :) She will get there. Best wishes!

My son is 14 months and doing the exact same thing! I'm not worried yet! In a rush,yes....worried no. I keep getting told that kids walk at their own pace. Don't worry..you def aren't alone!

My baby is 14 months and doing the same as yours. I'm not worried yet. My first daughter walked at 15 1/2 months. It will happen.
