Hi, my son every time i mean everytime a word comes out of his mouth he repeats it 4-6 times before going to the other word, like if he wants milk hell say mom mom mom mom , Gabriel gabriel gabriel wants Milk milk milk milk , he doesnt stutter... if thats the right word?
he says the full word but just repeats it over and over has if he wants to be sure we heard it!
ive tried everything to ingnoring it to sitting down and making him relax, i just dont undestand thie behavior. My mother has 5 kids ands never seen this, honestly its getting more annoying than anything else... dont want to sound like bad mom, but just for asking milk is a 5 min repeating situation.. even when he plays he just repeats it toys name 5-6 times, or there actions...
Anyone has lived this or anything to help me about it

ive noticed my daughter will get talking and she's going too fast, so she says too many words for what she's trying to say. for ex. she'll be saying "mommy, daddy, nana, daddy, mommy, nanna, mommy" over and over in a row til she starts stumbling over her words, and then she stops says "no" and corrects herself.
I'd say your son sort of IS stuttering. not in the sence that he is getting caught up on a letter or sylable, but caught up on the entire word. my mom has a similar stutter. so it does happen.
take him to a speech therapist to be sure. nipping it early is the best way to solve it. and if its nothing, then you've lost nothing by checking it out.

my son makes me repeat everything I say, but my husband and I noticed the other day that when we keep repeating, he watches our mouths and mouths the words themselves then repeats it over and over again! So I wouldn't be too worried, at least his vocabulary is growing!

You're not alone.
At the moment when he gets stuck on a word I tell my son (aged 3yrs) "I really want to hear what you have to say - so take a deep breath" - if he keeps going I insist he stops - "close your mouth and think about what you're saying. then when you've worked out what you want to ask me, say it slowly". It seems to be working. I just keep reassuring him and tell him that he has a lovely voice, that I enjoy his stories and hopefully he'll just get over it in his own time.
But I have an assessment booked in with a speech therapist in January just in case.
Good luck

Agreed! My son does this too, mostly with words like mommy and daddy (and No!) - perfectly normal now.

Interesting thing I learned - all kids across different countries start out learning/saying the same sounds, but they start learning language because certain words/sounds/phrases are reinforced by their parents. So this is like your son's way of reinforcing what he is learning!

My daughter repeats herself CONSTANTLY. And it does drive me batty. Not in the exact same way but like if we're driving & she see's a tree it's "tree, tree, tree, tree, tree, tree, tree". Basically she doesn't stop until you have said the word back to her. It's like she's looking for confirmation she's right. So if she says tree once & then I say tree back to her she stops with the repeating. But I have stopped this now as it seemed like to me that she wouldn't let up until she got confirmation that she was right or some kind of affirmation. Affirmation is a great thing but I don't want her to "need" approval all the time. I want her to build confidence that she knows it's a tree & doesn't need my saying so to prove she's right. If you know what I mean. So now I might say "yes you know what it is baby your very clever" without repeating the word back to her. But we do go through this all day, when asking for something, when she see's something of interest absolutely everything. Now she's started the "Mummy" "yes darling" "Mummy" "yes baby" "Mummy" "yes my baby girl what do you want" "Mummy" & so on............ I'll miss it when it stops lol.

Practice makes perfect I say. I still have to say someones name like 10-20 times in my head so I don't forget their name next time I see them lol! So I would say he repeats it so he remembers it and can say it correctly. My son's firt word was mum and he said it over and over again everyday for weeks now funny enough it's the work backpack! So don't be concerned at all. Nothing wrong with a pretty chatty fella, ladies don't enjoy the silent ones lol ; )

Thank you ! Thats what i though too, maybe its the way he learns, or something like that. Me and my parents sat with him and though him new words and phrase last week end , and honestly there is an amazing improvement, the more words he knows i guess the less he needs to repeat hehe
Thank you!

I read about this somewhere. It's not as uncommon as you may think. What it said was that some kids when they learn a new word or they get the hang of new words they can get into a habit of repeating them over and over, not for your sake, but for theirs. They find it fun and interesting and it's nothing to worry about and they grow out of it. (My 2 year old daughter goes through little fazes of this which is why I did the research). Hope that it's a help!

Get him checked out it can be a sign of autism if i am not mistaken. Something about repeating actions or words is comforting to them.
