My daughter walked on tip toes to begin with and we couldn't put shoes on her for a few months because of this, and everyone used to point this out to me also (even my mother!). But she is 19 months old now and walks with her feet flat and has done so for a few months. So if you want more peace of mind you should always get your Dr's advice. I have also known other parents to take their child (of various ages) to physio to help them walking on flat feet as it can become an issue (but I'm not sure what age it does become an issue). But reading all the other posts on here it is very common and something the child grows out of eventually, but confirming this with your Dr would be beneficial.

Good luck and all the best.

they are pointing it out because, generally, if they dont grow out of it, it can be a sign of cerebral palsy.

but usually this isnt disgnosed until after age 3.

its fairly common for kids under 2 to do this, and especially if they spent a lot of time in a jolly-jumper or exersaucer.

I had a friend who's daughter walked on her tip toes til she was a little over 2yrs she's almost 3 now and still does it every now and then her doc said it's fine.

One of the bubs in my mum's group walks on his tip toes whereas my daughter tends to lean her weight inwards on her ankles. Both are apparently quite normal at this age when they have only been walking for a few months and I am told they will grow out of these little quirks with time. Talk to your doctor and if s/he assures you its not a problem at this early stage then just turn a deaf ear to the comments of those other people!

Really?? I just read an article in Today's Parent about kids walking on their tippie toes and it said that they tend to do that for the first 3 years.

Samantha, I would recommend making an earlier appointment.
It would put your mind at rest to have a Doctors opinion.
Walking on tip toes is not uncommon for children when they first start walking but it is far from normal to keep going.
If they continue walking on tip toes for years, then the tendons and ligaments in their legs actually shrink and then surgery is required, which then sees them wearing casts for months until the tendons and ligaments heal.
This I can vouch for. I have 2 ugly scars on the backs of my legs from this very procedure!
Check it out with your Dr. just in case.

I wouldn't worry until the doctor tells you something that you should be worried about. Talk to her doctor at her next check up or if you are that concerned about it than make an earlier appointment.
