He's 12 months and doesn't eat alot of table food. What do I need to do to keep him full during the night time?

Quoting Dorothy:

My daughter use to sleep through the night and then all of a sudden she is waking any where from 2- 4 times a night wanting a bottle. It's horrible. And now she is also starting to cry when we put her back down after the bottle, wanting us to hold her again. Finally this morning my husband and i came tot he conclusion that she needs to learn t put herself back to sleep ... wish us luck!

Yeah. It is terrible for a few days. I felt like a terrible mom but you have to do it for the best of your child, and you. My son will still cry sometimes when we put him down for bed, but he knows that he won't be taken out of bed and he falls asleep on his own. If he wakes up in the middle of the night I don't even go in his room, unless his cry sound like he is hurting, they occasionally get legs and arms in the bars of their cribs. Good luck, stay strong. It does get better if you stay consistant.

You should try to get him to eat more table food. At 12 months he should be eating 3 meals a day and a couple of snacks too. That may be the reason he is eating so many bottles. Fluids digest so fast compared to solids.

I would say to give him more milk at once. My son takes 8 oz bottles and has for several months now. He should be eating just like you by now, as in breakfast lunch and dinner, even if it is still baby food. My son eats table food. He sleeps 12-16 hours at night without waking up, though that is uncommon. Also I was told that by now they don't need to eat in the middle of the night so they eat out of habit. You might just need to let him cry himself back to sleep, as terrible as it sounds. We had to do that with ours, it took 3 days to get him to sleep all night long. Good luck. I hope you find a solution.

our ped said the limit for milk and or formulas by this age is no more than 24oz total a day. my son has 4oz after breakfast 8oz before nap and 8 oz before bath time. their tummies are still very small and they dont need a whole lot of food I would bet him waking up is just more habit than hunger.
Do he go to sleep with a bottle?-if so he is just used to something in his mouth- try putting him to sleep without a bottle just rocking or cuddling singing works around here
Good luck

Have you tried finger foods, cheerios, the Gerber puffs, the Gerber dried fruits, bananas? If he likes bananas, we found that giving our wee one a banana not long before bed, and a 8 oz bottle with some cereal in it, it works. The doctor told us not to give milk to our baby at all when she wakes up in the middle of the night, to just give her water. So now we put a bottle with water in her bed with her at night, when she goes to bed, and if she wakes up she gets it herself, and does not wake us up any more. It is out of habit that they wake up at night like this, and need to know how to soothe themselves. I hope some of this helps you, and good luck.

Give him more table food, try to get him to eat all you can, finger foods or purees...that's way too much milk for him. Plus, once you cut out the formula he's going to need to get his nutrition met from other things than just milk alone. Good luck!

That is quite a bit of milk and sleep disturbance for you and baby:-(

Not eating table food is probably ok...but I'd up his amount of baby food during the day. If he hates sitting in a high chair just put him on your lap and feed him.

My baby loves rice. I mix vegetables, tofu or chicken with it. It's easy to eat and yummy, too.

Best wishes!

Have you tried giving him bigger bottles? My son has been taking 8 oz. bottles for months now. We also put cereal in the bottle at night.
