Hi ladies!

Isabella is 1 year old on the 14th and still only has her 2 bottom teeth. The top ones are almost here - they are swollen and bulging like crazy. My question is about food. She eats veggies, fruits, meat, chicken, cereal, cucumber, bread, pasta, yoghurt, cheese and drinks water. I still puree most of her stuff because I'm not so sure when to stop! When I do beef for her, even if it's pureed well, she still does a bit of a gagging motion on it.

What else can I give her? I've read about finger foods like Cheerios - will she hold them in her mouth till they soften? I'm worried about choking. What do you feed your little ones?

I have for some time let my daughter feed herself the finger foods - this includes vegetables, fish fingers, chicken nuggets. I give her Cheerios cereal for breakfast, I tend to let them soak in the milk while I give her a breast feed before I feed them to her. I stopped puree'ing food a long long time ago. So I pureed from 4 months till 6 months. Then I started mashing with the potato masher. Then at around 8 months I just cut everything into small cubes. Then around 9-10 months I just put the food on her tray & she picks it up & eats it. She feeds herself fruit every morning tea. She has cheese & crispbread. Cereals, yoghurts, custard & the like are the only things I feed her myself. I give her a spoon to hold & practice with when I'm feeding her these foods. She eats mostly what we eat these days.

they use their gums to chew and mash so her lack of teeth have nothing to do with it... at this age they should pretty much be eating what you are

Our son will be a year on the 26th and he eats what we eat. I use to puree all of his foods too until he hit 9 months. He is a great eater and I hardly ever worry about him choking. Cheerios did not last long at our house..He got bored with them. Have you tried not pureeing your daughter’s foods? I think that by a year old she should be ready for the chunky stuff :) Finger foods that our son loves are fruits, toast, cheese, avocados, all natural cheese puffs, annies cheddar crackers andd steamed veggies. Our son's favorite is mango. Branch out a bit..I bet she will love it! Good luck!

Thanks! I have heard all about these wonderful Gerber things but I live in Greece we don't have anything Gerber related! Another reason I miss living in Canada!!! I will try to be more free in what she eats - I know that she will gum everything but I'm still a little nervous.

my little girl will b one on the 17th, i was the same as u untill a month or 2 ago, she used 2 gag on the jars with lumps in, so i blended them untill it started 2 get annoying so i jus stopped and kept offering her lumps untill she gave in n ate it without gagging. but shes been eating finger food since she was 6 months, as soon as she could lift food 2 her mouth i started handing her stuff, toast n chips are always a winner, beans are good cos she lifts all the wee beans n eats them individually. she ate chicken dippers and supernoodles in her aunties house the other night, but i always have something else on standby incase i think she hasnt had enough. also i found organix biscotti biscuits were a good finger food. my wee girl is gettin 2 the stage that she doesnt want me 2 feed her, she rather try herself (not great at using a spoon though, makes a lot of mess!!)

anything and everything we eat except nuts and shellfish. we give him pieces that he can do himself (and have for months now) He loves any kind of soup too so we always have a pot of something on the go he has a bowl of soup pretty much everyday - he prefers homemade to canned, but who could blame him
Good luck
oh also for snacks puffs or gerber lil crunchies are AWESOME! havent met a baby or mommy that doesn't love em

I feed my daughter everything that we eat. I usually just cut it into smaller pieces and let her feed herself.
