My baby is 8 months old and has his 2 top teeth and 2 bottom teeth. He's my first so I'm not sure about when to start solids and soft table foods. I'm so worried about him choking. Does anyone have some guidelines or tips? Thanks a bunch!

Sorry, I misunderstood. My daughter has been eating grapes, fruit cut up into pieces she can grab, corn etc. I have given her a chicken nugget she can hold onto & chew at. I originally started with completely pureed, then mashed & now just cut into small pieces. I have started to include her meals with our dinners now & just modify a little bit. She doesn't always eat all that I put out for her, I think it is a bit tiring for her if the whole meal is hard work chewing, but she is giving it a good go. I have given scrambled eggs (properly cooked), pieces of cheese, crispbread type crackers. Just to give you an idea.

just cook the beegeesus out of it at first. We steam almost all of out veggies so when ours are done we leave a few in there for an extra couple of mins so the are really soft. (Carrots, potatoes). I don't think there is anything age appropriate that he hasn't had (no nuts no dairy no eggs) other than that I still mash most of his food , but we try to give pieces on his tray more and more. He loves avocados, grapes (peeled and quartered or smaller depending on the grape) and his mum mum crackers. Lately he has been throwing his arms all over the place banging and clapping so it has been more difficult to feed him as he sometimes accidentally hits the spoon in my hand. I have started to give him his own spoon to keep his hands occupied that seems to be working. Just be careful, but not so careful you don't let your child learn and experience new things. Have fun meal time should not be a scary thing for either of you.

I was giving my daughter pureed foods until her Godmother came and corrupted her. She has a little girl that is 2 months older than my daughter and she eats everything from the table so we switched. We've not had any problems at all. She eats meat, crackers, veggies, fruit, cheese and we still give her applesauce because she love love loves it. She loves rice and beans and tortillas from our favorite mexican restaurant. As long as it's not spicy or greasy she gets whatever I make for dinner. We do not give her any kind of sweets though. No cakes, cookies or juice. Babies have unbelievable gagging reflexes and she scarred me the first time but I've figured out to give her a second and she's fine.

Hey Guys! Im new to this. Ive ben raising my Granddaughter for the last
3 months and she just stopped eatting baby food at about 5 months. She does have some health challenges. Her ped. Dr is not sure if she is
tongue tied or if there is a deformaty. Any way I started feeding her off
the table by trial and error. Avocado was the first, then mashed potatoes
then boiled carrots and cooked green beans. Fruit has been a problem
because she also has reflux. She also has no teeth. Any more
ideas from anyone, as Id take what you have to offer! Thanks.

Thanks so much you guys! Yeah, he eats any pureed food I give him, including the meats and dinners. I was mainly wondering about the table foods... thanks Lisa!!!

At his age it's perfectly fine to give him table foods. Try a chicken leg with bits of meat on it, bread, soft pasta like couscous, scrambled eggs, avocado. He won't choke if you give him safe foods. Don't give him things like raisins, hot dogs, grapes, nuts, etc.

It is my personal belief that babies should start by no later than 6 months. This is what I have been advised. Your child should by now be able to take back & swallow without choking. Does he sit up well etc??? When you decide to start, start with very runny food, like Farex Rice Cereal. Make it up quite watery. Use a very small spoon to start as he won't open his mouth very big initially until he gets use to the idea.

If your very worried have someone with you when you do it for the 1st time, your Mum, Sister or girlfriend. So when he does really well for you & show's you what a big clever boy he is you can both get excited together & help build your confidence.
