still feeding every 3hrs during the day

Our son is definately on a three hour schedule during the day and sleeps 8pm -7am with one feeding.  I tried stretching his eating too but it didn't work.  I've decided it's just his schedule now and to let it be.  Last week he was eating a lot and this week he's sleeping longer and eating less.  I'm not an expert but it seems like it'll go in cycles.  I'm guessing there'll be another growth spurt sometime soon.

my daughter is almost 4 months old and she eats just about every 3 hours during the day too. i put her to bed at 8pm and she usally will sleep till 8am. sometimes she will wake up for a feeding between 5-7 but not everynight. that only happends like once or twice a week.

I thought every 3 hours was normal, that's what I do for my daughter. I'm sure you have enough milk, as it is on a supply and demand system - so the more he takes the more you produce. I wouldn't worry if I were you.

I'm glad I'm not alone!!!  My daughter is 4 months and she's still eating every 2 hours during the day and eats once during the night.  Don't worry you have plenty of milk and your body will produce milk on demand.  So once our babies start eating more in less feeding then it will adjust.  I nursed my first until he was a year, at the end of that year I thought I wasn't producing enough milk but once he was weaned I still became engorged!  So I'm sure that you're both fine.

My son (4 months, 1 week) feeds about every 2 hours or 2 and a half hours during the day but doesn't feed between 8:00 until about 7:00 am the next morning.  I asked my doctor and she said to feed on demand and it's almost like he's storing up the food for his 11 hour stretch of no food at all.  As long as he's happy and healthy, then he's doing great :)

Jessica, Seems like lots of moms are having the same experience.  I am too.  My son is 4 months and typically wakes 0-1x per night and has been feeding about every three hours during the day for a long time but has recently started to have some longer stretches.  He's a big baby (17 lbs) and just started doing this on his own if I waited till he fussed.  I bet your little one will start stretching out the time b/w feeds too as his tummy gets bigger.

My son is now 4 1/2 mths old. When he was first born we used to have to wake him for 3 hrly feeds. Now that he is more active I give him a top up feed before his naps just to get an hour sleep out of him. Otherwise he feeds approx every 3hrs and 1-3 times per night. I will need to start him on solids soon. Maybe he will go back to only needing one feed at night :) Will you be starting solids soon?

My son is 3 1/2 months old, and still needs a feed every 2 1/2 hours during the day. Sometimes he will sleep longer than normal, waking 3 or so hours after his last feed, and he will wake crying because he is so hungry. At night he goes between 8 and 12 hours without a feed, so I don't mind him needing to feed so frequently during the day. He usually has 6 feeds a day, which is still considered normal for this age.

Elliott is 3 1/2 months and eats every 2-3 hours during the day (still...sigh) and will vary from 3-6 hours between feeds at night. I am breastfeeding as well; I worry that working and pumping 2-3 days a week (12 hour shifts) is doing weird things to my supply.

My son sleeps thru the night and since he's started that, he feeds every 2-3 hours during the day. I'll happily feed him all day for a good night's sleep! He's 15 weeks tomorrow!

I am a mother of twins who were born in Oct. They feed every 3-4 hours during the day and about 1-3 times a night. All I can say to you...from an avid breast-feeder...is that you have enough milk. It is a supply and demand thing. Nature is awesome! Don't worry about it. The worst thing you can do is worry about it and not eat enough calories. So, make sure you eat lots of good fats, etc. and feed the baby whenever he is hungry. You can do it! You are awesome for breastfeeding! You go girl!

Hi Jessica my son Max is exactly the same! He feeds every 3 hours and once during the night. Your breasts will supply your son with enough milk, so don't worry about that. Are you a stay at home mom? I am and I've found that Max wants to eat more frequently during the week since I'm always available and basically feed on demand. But on the weekend with the help of my husband and family members handling him and helping me care for him more, I can usually stretch him out to feeding every 4 hours.

My son is 3months old and he demands a bottle every three hours. he actually gives you a 15 minute warning cry before the 3 hours are up. He eats 6oz and sometimes wants more. He is 14-15lb. I think it all depends on the kiddo. My daughter now 2 would have to be woke up for 4 hour feedings at this age and never really cried for a bottle ever. Her brother on the other hand screams until he is red faced and holds his breath!!

thanks guys. i thought i was the only one. im glad to see there are other mums out there in the same situation. i dont mind breastfeeding him 3hrly during the day. expecially now that he only feeds for 15-30mins(15 of acutally sucking). he used to feed for 1hr.

My son is 15 weeks and he feeds approximately every 3 hours but sometimes even more frequently than that. He generally sleeps from 8pm to 7am though. My understanding is that you can't overfeed a breastfed baby and if he needed more milk your body would make it. As long as you and your baby are happy with the feeding situation I wouldn't worry. Do you mind feeding him that frequently? If not then I wouldn't worry as every baby is different.

My daughter is 3mths and she feeds about every 3 hrs during the day - she also doesn't sleep as long during the night :0(... I don't think it matters though as my understanding is that they need to fill up during the day to make it through the night...
