Im just wondering about giving my 3 1/2 month old son just water in his bottle, is he too young? Also what about giving them cereal, he seems to be hungry for somthing a bit more filling sometimes

water is a huge no no till older .... cereal is supposed to be waited on till6 months my baby has reflux so she's gotten a little cereal since 2 months

My pedi said that it is okay to give them a bottle of water. He recommends doing that first if they are constipated. I tried to give Jack a bottle of water once. He took a few sucks and then looked at me and refused to drink anymore. My pedi also recommends it in the summer when it is hot and they could get dehydrated. Cereal can be had at 4 months. My baby has been satisified with just formula but he will start getting cereal here in a few weeks. I think rice cereal is what you are supposed to start out with.

there is a lot of different opinons out there on this subject! My son is 3 1/2 months old and 17 pounds. He was 10 pounds at birth and I give him a little bit of cereal at night and he LOVES it. ....I would just email his doctor to see what she recommends...

Our Doctor told us the same thing in regards to the water. He also said just make sure they are still eating teh same amount as their little tummies can get full of water and have no room for food which obviously would be bad

The doctor told me that it was okay at two months old to add cereal to their formula she drinks it. As for water.... I first gave her a bottle of water about a week ago and she drank the entire thing. I didn't see why you couldn't. But ultimatley its up to you !

i use oatmeal cereal, it is easier for them to digest than rice cereal if they have hard stool. also adding a bit of prunes can help too. my daughter eats prunes at lunch and oeatmeal cereal at night. it works good for her.

my doctor suggest waiting til 6 months for cereal if you are breastfeeding but if your using formula you should wait til 4 months. even if theyre not getting as filled by the formula just try giving him a little more cause sometimes their little bellies arent ready for food yet.

I only give my breastfed baby water if she has the hiccups. They really get enough from their feedings, so they shouldn't need extra. The cereal is a matter of whether or not your baby is ready for it. It needs to be watered down so that it is very thin to begin with. Feed it with the baby at a slight incline so he won't choke. Always feed him from a spoon, never put cereal in a bottle. One of the reasons they are started on cereal is so they can begin to practice eating. With all three of my children, I started them on cereal by 3 months. I started with about a tbsp of thin cereal at night before bed and you gradually increase the feeding to breakfast, lunch and dinner. Go by your sons cues. He will spit A LOT of it out, but again, it is mostly about practice for now. He will still get enough nutrition from his formula/breastmilk. Usually, when they are full they will turn their heads and you can usually tell when they have had enough. I start my daughter with one breast, then the cereal, then I top her off with the other breast. She has been doing great. Follow your son's cues and your instincts and you'll be fine.

It is not recommended to give any baby water or cerel before 6 months old. Some people do start cereal earlier. Water is a big no-no though for babies under 6 months, it can lead to water intoxication and death. http://www.stlouischildrens.org/content/...
Breastmilk is 88% water and formul is 80%. That is plenty.

my son born on the 3rd eats cereal and washes it down with a little water. He was hungry ALL the time, so we gave it a try and it has been fantastic. We started with the Heinz beginer rice cereal and that went well. We are also trying the Heinz beginer barley cereal

my dog said no cereal til 4 months and no water.. but ive heard otherwise from other people so i dont know.. my baby is always hungry i know how u feel

its up to you and your baby...and long as your doc okays but mine loves his water but is not ready for his ceral yet he just kept throwing it back up and he was born 0ct 8th, but my best friend's child who was born 0ct 20, hasn't been tried on water but loves his cereal and he is doing great on it. also it is good to give them some water that has been boiled,(and of course cooled down i dont' mean give them boiled water hehe) it helps wash there mouth out so that they don't get thrash (i think thats what its called)

I know you can buy Breakfasts for babies from 4 months as we have just bought one for our daughter although not tried her on it yet. I wouldnt give her cereal that we eat at all as i dont think her digestive system would cope. You could try rusks mixed with his baby milk. I did that with my son as his first tastes of food and he really enjoyed it. As for the water, i dont see why not. It is said that babies dont need anything but milk for the first 6 months but i doubt water will hurt him. We recently bought a baby juice for our little girl but she wont take to it and water didn't work lol she just spat it back out!! Hope some of this helps x
