What solids/foods is your baby eating?

OK - I think I am behind, but I am not sure. George (my son) will be 8 months on the 19th and to date he has eaten: peas, beans, cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus, squash, carrots (and maybe a few other vegetables I am forgetting). For the most part I am making the food myself, but what "State" is this equal to?

AND, my mom made a comment the other day that he should be eating meat - who else's is? What are your kids eating now?

Oh - and he has no teeth, and drinks 6 ozs 3x a day and then between 8-12 ozs at bedtime. And I mean nooo teeth, just pink gummy goodness!

What you're feeding him sounds good. Is he getting any grains like rice or oatmeal? I don't think he needs to have meat yet. Ask your pediatrician if you're worried. Everyone has different systems. I like the book Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron for making my own baby food and making it as nutritionally complete as possible as well as age-appropriate for proper digestion. It's handbook with recipes for all ages and lists of age-appropriate foods for each month until 1-year.

I personally have no idea what the stages mean because I live in East Africa and you can't buy baby food where I live.

my doctor said there really are no guidelines for what they should be eating at this age but just to try to have variety. I give my babies yo baby yougurt and many different fruits as well as some combo meals with turkey or chicken and also soft tofu in addition to the veggies you mentioned.

My son started the stage one baby food at 4 months. This consisted of carrots, peas, sweet potatoes, and green beans and apples, pears, and bananas. Plus he eats the baby oatmeal mixed with formula or the rice cereal. Now he is up to the stage two, which have some meat like a chicken vegetable dinner and some kind vegetable beef, but they honestly smell like cat/dog food and the two times I tried to give it to him he made this unbelievably disgusted (and amusing!) face. He loves the fruits though. According to the chart my Pediatrician gave me, they don't really need to start complex proteins until they are crawling/10 months. I think you are doing just fine with what you're giving him.

My doctor said that the first year they don't need meat, so I'm keeping my little one a veggie eater until after she's one.

My daughter eats about whatever she can get her chubby little hands on, but it still needs to be pureed, she's not chewing anything yet, so we're on the Gerber 2nd foods. I have bought her some of those puff things they sell, but she's not very interested in them.

Also I forgot to say this I wanted to breast feed until six months without adding any solids but a couple weeks before my goal she really became intrested in food. At one point my daughter grabbed a banana right out of my sisters hand and took a big bite. Needless to say I did not reach my goal. I feel its very important do what u think is best for ur child and what u think ur child is ready for. In the end if ur child is happy and healthy isn't that all that matters?

My daughter born Oct 14 eats alot of purees. She eats gerber foods because I don't have the time to make my own and also I don't eat very healthy so this way I know she is. She eats sweet potatos, corn, squash, peas, green beans, peaches, bananas, berries (no strawberries), oatmeal, pears, garden vegetable blend (carrots, spinach, and peas), etc... Also she eats the gerber graduates vegetable pinwheels and puffs. I am still breastfeeding and supplementing with formula.

I do not give her meat yet I don't feel its necessary. I think in a month I will try to give her some turkey or chicken but no red meat.

My daughter has 6 teeth!

My son eats everything!!! He eats most of the stage 2 and 3 foods. He has developed a distaste for the jarred beef and chicken but will eat turkey and ham. I just started introducing some real table food(other than mashed potatoes and bananas) and he will eat pretty much the same as me just chopped up when needed because he still doesnt have any teeth but a few are starting to cut now. By the way, the thing that I have found helps with teething is freezing sliced bananas and let them eat it. It is extremely messy but it makes them feel better and it does have some nutritional benefits too.

Lily is eating what we eat mostly minus meat i dont believe in giving meat to baby's till a minimum of 9 months we'll probably be closer to 12 months though... baby's mash with their gums so no need for teeth

my daughter was born on the 10/31/08 too and she did the same just was interested in my food now at meal times she has the same as us with a cup of water...I guess every baby is different. My friends Son who is a week older then Caitlyn and has 4teeth is still on stage one and isnt interested at all in other foods...I agree with not forcing food on them but if they want it then let them have it.

The stage is really dependent on how course the food is. Stage 1 is very thin and Stage 2 is a little more thick, with teeny tiny lumps. My son is eating stage 2 (born on 10/31). I don't know why people are so ready to force meat on babies. They don't need it. My daughter did not get teeth until she was 1, so she did have chicken prior to having teeth and she was fine with it. She also ate bagels, bananas and other finger foods sans teeth.

For your son, you can probably add in fruits and grains, like oatmeal. If he already eats only veggies, I don't think you need to worry about him rejecting them now.

I agree with the below poster- no need to rush things. My son was grabbing at my food and seemed interested in eating so we started him on baby food. Also, he was always hungry and feeding him baby food seemed to help space out his feedings a little more. Which was a break I needed as a breastfeeding mom who struggles to keep my milk supply up to meet his demand.

My little guy has had so many veggies and fruits already he has also had chicken, beef and turkey. He also love mum mum crackers, he used to like the farley biscuits but now that everything else has a different flavor I think those are to boring for him although he'll eat them if he's really hungry. Our ped said no eggs until 1 no nuts until 2 no milk until 12 months (other dairy IE yogurt and cheese is ok around 9 months) shellfish I believe was 1 yr. also no honey as it is unpasturized. I make almost all of his food (i just blitz (hand mixer) whatever we are eating minus butter and salt etc) He LOVES avocado and sweet potato and squash are his fav veggies he prefers beef to chicken. He hasn't had bread though no reason why just hasn't. he likes pear juice but not mixed ones like apple/cherry. he also has a variety of cereals(rice, oatmeal, barley) the ped said at least one cereal meal a day we normally add it to just about everything he eats (just to thicken it up)

Also Aiden has four teeth (2 top and 2 bottom) and 2 more top ones just poking through

I have started feeding my son oatmeal w/ fruit in the morning, then fruits after his morning nap, then veggies at nightime. He's starting on the 2nd foods but we are also starting him on some of the food that we're eating. Bread, lunch meat, some frest fruit and veggies. I've also gotten him the freeze dried yogurt bite thingys and some other snack type things. I am still giving him a 6-8oz bottle every 6 hrs or so. Oh, and my little guy has 6 teeth already! He's wanting to munch on everything in sight! But I'm still a little nervous about what to give him.

Every bubba (& mum!) is different! My twin girls are eating everything basically. I try to pick low sodium foods if necessary (eg baked beans, meat, bickies & sauces). The paediatrician said its fine to eat anything now, except eggs (too late - they love scrambled eggs tho it was an egg yolk one - not whites), fish (they had had salmon that night!) & nuts (well I'm not going to give them a peanut to chew on!) Oh & no cow milk as a drink til 12mths They have no teeth yet, but their gums seem pretty sharp as they can bite pieces off their mandarine segment etc. The dr said it was ok if they have already had the above - I think its an allergy thing & there are no allergies in our family. Though the health nurse had told us egg yolks are ok from 6 months & fish is ok too. The health nurse said to hold off the honey as its causes botulism! Different info from those in the know just makes me think that if supervised, in moderation & no allergies, they can try anything they want to. As for choking, I did a baby 1st aid course & it made me more comfortable to know what I should do if they do start choking, but the girls have only ever coughed & got it up themselves, except for 1 time where a pat on the back was enough to get it back up.

The girls eat HUGE amounts of food now though - breakfast alone is 2 weetbix with banana each, then usually some more fruit & bicky. They get at least 1 feed of meat a day - I just chop it up & stick blend it (bar mixer?) & thats fine enough for them mixed with veges. I've really cut back on the milk during the day, though they might get 1 midday feed, its usually just on waking & going to bed now. Apparently its now the 'transition period' & will stop the milk by 12mths though maybe sooner in my case.

All I put in their mouths has been run by their paediatrician & oked. I know that some mums may disagree & it doesn't suit all bubs, but it is working for mine & they are very healthy & happy. The most important thing to me is supervision when they eat - if you are there watching not much can happen to them

My girls are on the small side so that may be why I'm encouraged to feed them as much as they will have (I don't - I think if they can eat more than me when I've got 50kg on them thats enough!) The paed. also said they will let me know when they want water, formula, breast or food, but we seem to have communication issues as I don't know - I just offer a bit of each if unsure

Have fun slowly getting used to eating! (And cleaning any surface in reach!)

My daughter eats the same as your son. Her favorite is Sweet Potatoes. We bought the sweet potatoes and turkey and she absolutely loves it. She also likes the chicken w/gravy 2nd foods. She doesnt have any teeth yet but enjoys gumming everything. I was also worried about her choking so I would try a pea-sized portion of table food(i.e multi-grain toast) and if she started to show signs of gagging then I would know that it was to soon for her to have it. She had her pincher grasp at 6 mths so she has been self-feeding since then.(puffs, cheerios, crunchers, soft carrots, bananas etc.) Just go by your sons signs he will definitely tell you when he is ready for the thicker textured foods. Good luck!

My son in 7 1/2 months old and he eats whatever we feel safe giving him. He does have two bottom teeth but I don't think he uses them much. This past week we were on vacation and decided to try scrambled eggs. He loved them. He eats just about anything. Today he had tea sandwiches. He loves bananas, pickles, bread and broccoli. I don't give him actual meat only what is in jar food. But am happy that he is starting to take to solids as a can control more of what he has. I say do what feels right. As long as your son seems satisfied that is all that matters.

my daughter is nearly 8months and eats everything but the only meat she'll eat is softly cooked chicken at the moment. she has no teeth so gums everything, she started eating toast at 6months. i gathered if she can pick her toys uo and hold them and then stick them into her mouth she could do the same with food, so she eats fruit and veg sometimes whole sometimes mashed, i cook, make and bake most of her food myself but grab a jar of food when we're out or i'm to busy to cook. she still has two 4oz milk bottles in the day and a large 7oz bottle for bed, sometimes she wants another 2oz in the night.

My daughter is 8 months old and she eats pretty much the same thing that your son eats. We have introduced her to some of the stage 2 meats and she seems to enjoy them. I have read that she can eat finger foods now, but I am really scared that she will choke. I only giver her things I know will dissolve in her mouth easily. She has her two bottom teeth already and I expect a few more soon.

My daughter does not eat solids. She gets only my milk. We're waiting until she chooses to pick up food and feed herself- I think the purees are completely pointless.

Well, he doesn't HAVE to eat meat, lots of people are vegetarians and healthy to boot, but he certainly CAN have meat. I'm sure that someone would balk at this, but it is perfectly acceptable to give him a chicken leg with a few bits on it- it is safer than cut pieces of meat.

My daughter doesn't have teeth yet either.
