my son has yet to really graduate to table foods. (he chokes on almost anything solid, or just spits it out after he's chewed it up-- another problem, another forum). so he is still eating a lot of pureed, baby food. when we got out we still use jarred baby food. when can i stop throwing away the used portions, due to the bacteria contamination> anyone know?

yes, and he will OCCASIONALLY actually eat them, but most time he will pick them up, examine them, squish them, taste them, and spit them back out .lol.

mostly i was wondering about the food that has been touched by the dirty spoon. we adults don't throw away food that's been touched by a used sppon, when can i stop doing it for him?

The jars normally say 2-3 days after they have been opened. If I don't refrigerate my opened jars within 6 hours I throw it away. Have you tried table items like mashed potatoes, vegetables cooked super soft, teething cookies?
